I received the following email from vumatel today. The only thing that's strange is that the coverage map says that only 16% of people in my area have shown interest and 2083 more sign-ups are needed to qualify.

"VUMA is Coming!

In preparation for the upcoming rollout we would like to inform you of the process for installing fibre into complexes and estates (Multi-dwelling units/MDU).

The process for installing fibre within an MDU differs from the normal rollout on street level.

VUMA will need to contact the trustees of the body corporate to set up a site survey. During this survey we will compile an installation plan that will indicate how the fibre will be reticulated through the complex/building.

Once the plan is complete we will present this to the trustees for approval. Once approved we can set a date to start construction.

There is no cost to the residents or body corporate to install the fibre into the complex and we will terminate the fibre outside of every unit. The only cost will be to residents who wish to have the fibre installed into their unit and this will cost R1710.00. Some of the ISPs (internet service providers) will cover the installation cost within their packages.

VUMA offers an OPEN ACCESS network which means that we provide the infrastructure and several ISPs will offer the services over the fibre. Please visit our interactive portal to view all available service providers and their packages.

If you stay within a complex, please will you provide your contact details and a trustee member’s contact details to chalaine.bester@vumatel.co.za so that we can get the process started.

We look forward to having you connected to world class fibre internet!

The VUMA Team"

Looks like Vumatel has subcontracted my area to fibrehoods :( . Does anyone know how we can request proper vumatel fibre as the poles don't look great and vumatel uses AON whereas fiberhoods use GPON. Most people in the area aren't happy about the poles .

Not subcontracted - Vuma owns Fibrehoods. I wonder if Fibrehoods had this in their rollout plan before the sale?

Can't offhand spot it here: http://fibrehoods.co.za/are-you-in-the-hood/

EDIT: May be Rivonia, I missed that, and my current link is too slow to see the exact boundaries.

Not too sure but it looks like CAP (Security Company) may be involved in the choice because apparently they want to put their cameras on the poles. Most of the poles seem to be up, now they just have to put up the fibre. It's a pity it isn't proper vumatel fiber.
