Hi all

To all residents of Moseley, please start registering your interest in Vumatel fibre to the home (FTTH). Please go to https://vumatel.co.za/coverage and register your interest there. Please spread the word among your neighbours, family, friends, basically anybody who lives in the area. A certain number of "interested" parties needs to register in order for Vumatel to plan to install Fibre. By registering your interest does not commit you to signing any contracts or cost you anything.

as of today the area is sitting at 73% of target and only needs 115 more people to show interest. The areas of Moseley Park, Hatton Estate and Farnigham Ridge are already under planning for install.

Just remember this does not commit you to any contracts or costs, Fibre is the way of the future so lets get these guys installing in our areas asap.

Thanks

Most folks already have, although some idiot on the NW watch group was moaning about a commitment which it is not.

I think this causes a lot of issues as people think they are signing up to the service. It is just showing interest. :whistling:

I don't want to get your hopes up, but I attended Vumatel's kick-off meeting for Berea West. They plan to start build there before the end of this month, and it'll take approximately 2 months before users will have their fibre lit up, and are online. Vuma mentioned that once Berea West are done, they'll start with your areas (Hatton, Ashley, Mosley Park, et. al.)

Your area seems a bit larger than Berea West, so 3 months after end July 2018?

Suspect so yes. I'm attending the meeting tonight to discuss the POP hosting but it's pretty much a go ahead from us but that still has to be setup and installed too by Vumatel.

Yep. The business development person I spoke from Vumatel said that they wanted Berea West sorted out first as it was a central location between your location and mine. I'm kinda not buying this reason, but hey, who knows; maybe it really is the case. Also, if the turnout at the Berea West kick-off was anything to go by, there were around 30 to 40 residents, max. This leads me to believe that Berea West didn't go through the whole Show My Interest process.

Lastly, would you be able to share pics of the POP itself whilst it's being installed, without giving its location away? Ta.

I'm not sure. It depends on what the agreement is between the location and Vumatel, I know a lot of ISP's don't like disclosing it. But if I get a chance, and it's allowed, yep!

Thanks, Kosmik.

The Vumatel person also said that they're careful about updating their coverage map as they believe that Telkom actively look at Vumatel's map and update their maps in response. So Vumatel play a bit of hide and seek, to use their words. Talk about covert ops!

Well if you look, the entire Ashley\Hatton\Moseley park\Moseley is not even listed on the website as planned or investigation.

Nor my area of Atholl Heights (and by extension, Reservoir Hills) as well. Yet, across the M19, there's tons of Telkom fibre.

I've been to one so far; the Berea West kick-off meeting.

What's discussed are the following:
  • What is fibre?
  • The speed advantages of fibre
  • The differences between ADSL and fibre
  • The construction phase (and if you're lucky, the commencement date of construction)
  • The impact of the construction phase to you, the resident, e.g. trenching, driveways being dug up, reinstatement, etc.
  • The various ISP's using Vumatel's infrastructure
  • A high level overview of the ordering process
  • Q&A

The townhall meeting for Berea West took less than an hour. It all depends on how many residents have questions, etc. You'll be surprised at how many folk still haven't heard about fibre.

Probably a selling session and a explanation. It's quite different from the normal ADSL route that most folks are used to. Although judging by the comments on the group last night, folks are tired and looking to jump, I just hope they don't sign 24 month contracts for anything until the rollout is underway. People need to weigh options.
