Hi
Has anybody in the Moseley area that recenlty gone live had a call from Vumatel to schedule an install from the boundry box in to the house as yet. Just wanted to see if they are doing the installs yet? I have not heard a thing as yet, I did a pre-application on the 23rd November with Cool Ideas.

Hi

My fibre in Moseley is getting installed on Wednesday next week. What I wanted to find out was how far Vumatel runs the fibre. I have a very steep property and not a very easy route for the fibre to follow. Plus I need the fibre to go into a specific room in the house as I have a rack mount cabinet with all my networking equipment and router. I have estimated and the fibre run from the box to the room is about 60m to 70m and will have to include conduit or trunking.

Just keep your expectations low, very low then you won't be disappointed. That's my secret or else I would have gone crazy. I preordered in october, got "THE CALL" last week confirming install for 6 Feb only. I just agreed to being available and left it.

So, hurry up and wait.

EDIT: I tried calling Vuma for the first time today and ended up listening to awful music. If you press 1 for new orders they answer immediately (they want you to press 3 but then you listen to "music"), but then get transferred to installations then you sit, so I moved on and put the phone down after the third attempt.

So I wouldn't bother calling, just wait.

Are they live in your areas ? I'm still waiting for them to go live in mine!
Yeah, Farningham Ridge and Moseley Park still hasn't gone live. Was told it'll be live this week.
Wallboxes were broken in December last year in Moseley Park by those Business Forums so it's been delayed a bit for all the areas included in that phase.

Same thing happened in Atholl Heights, i.e. wall boxes and equipment in the ground was damaged. Apparently, it was due to an errant sub-contractor not paying his staff.

Only got the call last week to install on 6 feb.

In Limpus rd (Moseley Park) and adjacent streets the sub contractors have been very busy the last week. I stopped and spoke to some of them and they said their deadline for the block is 29th Jan (today). They urged me to place my pre order (already done in December) and they said within the next 2 weeks i should be contacted to schedule installation.

I also see Vuma guys very busy in the POP across from Sarnia Primary. ( provisioning?)

Vuma phoned my dad this morning ( hes just up the road from the Curry Os) they have scheduled him for install on 15th Feb - his order was placed before New Years.. gives you an idea of the backlog..

I am going to start putting more pressure on my ISP to pressure Vuma into putting some more Vuma and hurry up!! . I also think end of Feb to be optimistic..

Looks like Moseley Park area is now for the most part live:

Vumatel phoned me out of the blue on Thursday 21st and said they had an installation cancellation in the area and could they come out immediately?.. (my appointment was only supposed to be tomorrow - 26th) So they did my installation, to my requirements, in less then 2 hours (Limpus Road). They were apparently doing maintenance in the POP outside Pinetown Vet, so the installation was only live late that afternoon. I was dealing with Mishka on 087 365 2032 - I think this is the regional office in Umhlanga - she was very patient; polite and helpful.

I went with Supersonic as an ISP, 20/20. For my requirements, this has been working rock-solid so far from Friday 12pm. 20Mbps is like streets ahead of the 10Mbps ADSL we had before!!:eek:

Awesome!
All areas went live on the 10th of Feb.
For those who haven't gotten an installation date, make sure you make an order on Vumatels website and one with your ISP.
