Probably a selling session and a explanation. It's quite different from the normal ADSL route that most folks are used to. Although judging by the comments on the group last night, folks are tired and looking to jump, I just hope they don't sign 24 month contracts for anything until the rollout is underway. People need to weigh options.

Kosmik, you can ask your fellow residents to check out the various packages at https://shop.vumatel.co.za . You can also point out to them that a number of the packages run month to month.

Folks have, I think the main issue is that the area is pretty "old". I think we are part of the younger families who have moved in but there is probably a disproportionate amount of folks much older ( 50+ ) who may struggle to understand the differences. I'll keep prodding on as we go and clarifying where possible.

Sure sure, we'll just look for a hair raising mad rabbit in the crowd :D

Unfortunately I have a distinct lack of hair these days..... apparently I look like a white supremacist without the tats...

Also, and this is quite important, is that Vumatel will try to get you to pre-order your installation. This is on a first come, first served basis. The sooner you get your pre-order in, the sooner it gets done.

So how was the kick-off meeting?

I didn't make it but we got some feedback in our community group. Apparently they will start trenching in June.

This is our local rep to contact.

In theory, Ashley will be live by end August latest. They are planning to start trenching mid-June but first need to finish up in Morningside, so will possibly only start end of June. Depending on snags, etc. work will take between 4 and 8 weeks.

Best case scenario: completed mid July. Worst case (for now) scenario: end August.

Pre-orders are live for Ashley on the Vumatel site.

I think Moseley may be last as we are tail end of the project. Although we did already have fibre trenched last year , was MTN though I think.

Kick off meeting was exactly what I expected...

More of a PR exercise because they know that they're going to be inconveniencing lots of people... and trying to explain the process to the layman, which is definitely needed.

Pinelands and Ashley moved across to the Pre-Order phase this morning so get your orders in peeps...

Hi Guys

unfortunately I was unable to make the meeting last night, my son was very sick. What I wanted to ask them was I stay in Moseley (not Moseley Park), on the meeting invite it showed both Moseley and Moseley Park. If you go to the coverage map it only has the light pink up to Moseley Park. Did they say anything about Moseley getting fibre at all?

Greg, you on the community group? Quite often chaps bandy info around but it can also get excessive.

Hi Kosmik

no I am not on the community group?

It's a whatsapp group for info. Do you know the suncell watch one for security?

*edit* popped you a PM.

Just mute the group as it can either be quiet or sometimes get noisy.

Yeah, Ashley and Pinelands will receive Fibre First.
Another interesting thing that they spoke about was Vumatel Cameras (LPR Cameras) that they want to deploy. I never get to ask more about that, but it seems like a really good thing.
