Pay Vumatel for 50Mbps, get 0.1Mbps

Vumatel subscribers across Johannesburg are complaining about network performance problems, including neighbourhoods in Fourways, the Edenvale area, Boksburg, and Germiston.

Although the nature of the complaints isn’t all the same, they are all related to performance problems on the Vumatel network.

Sounds like backhaul is oversaturated and Vumatel did not plan ahead. Once they realised the link was maxed out they now need to wait for the backhaul to be upgraded.

So on the one hand the article says Vumatel refuses to acknowledge the issue and then on the other hand the article says they DO in fact acknowledge the problem?

Vumatel refuses to acknowledge fault when customer uses proper channels and logs fault with ISP.
Vumatel acknowledges fault when backed into a corner by news publication.

Definitely not just a Gauteng issue - happening in Eastern Cape also.
During the day I get 100 Mbps Download / 100 Mbps Upload and then between 17h30 and 18h00 the download speeds drop dramatically (for the rest of the evening), however the upload is still acceptable.
Yesterday at 17h30 I was getting 4.9 Mbps down / 110 Mbps upload. Using the MyBB speed test has worse results.
Logged another call with Vox to log with Vumatel...

It worked tho... Vodacoms oversaturated'ness is solved now lol

This reminds me of old days of Telkom DSL oversubscriptions.

This forum is full of threads of people complaining about poor performance and ISPs being powerless to help them.

Vumatel is fast turning into the next Telkom

Ironically I said that to the support engineer yesterday when logging the ticket...it feels like the Hellkom dial-up days when everyone waited for the after hours cheaper rates and the connections slowed to a crawl...

And it's not just the suburbs that was mentioned in the article that's experiencing issues. Here in Meyerton we're experiencing terrible stability too. And also, ISP's don't escalate to Vuma and Vuma just plainly refuses to acknowledge issues.

Same here, my fiber line has been up for only one day this week .

This is kelvin Marlboro side.

Vumatel doesn't work anywhere. If they say that they are upgrading their grid, then it's lies. Even in KZN Vumatel lines don't work. Sometimes they switch off for days and if you try and contact them then they don't answer their phones or they'll give bs saying they are sending technicians or that there's nothing wrong with the lines. HOW CAN THERE BE NOTHING WRONG WITH THE LINES IF IM NOT GETTING INTERNET?? How can the rest of my neighbourhood have the same problem if there's nothing wrong?!!!

Feel like Vumatel needs to be taken to court and sued for stealing peoples money. Taking money without providing the service paid for last I checked is a crime.

So even in durban, avoid vumatel?

My VOX/Vuma has been kak the last while too.
It's so bad that I have a continual ping 1.1.1.1 -t running on my one machine next to me... so that I can see when the issue happens... I'll suddenly lose internet connectivity (can't browse, discord disconnects etc) and my pings timeout. Go check my ONT and see all green lights across the board. Restart the ONT and most times that fixes it.

Vox says "seems like a random issue"... INVESTIGATE PLEASE. But nope... can't tell me anything other than "don't know sorry".

Vumatel are trash.

I've logged several requests for outages, only for them to respond via Afrihost :)sick:) that nothing is wrong, then the Afrihost phone operator wants be to send yet more photos of my router and ONT.

At this point, I tell them to to GTFO.
