Vumatel to launch 10Gbit/s home fibre in South Africa

I doubt you have a device with a 4x4 MU-MIMO, 2x2 tops theoretically you will see 2.1Gbps, real-world is probably 1.2-1.5Gbps max if you take all 160MHz of bandwidth on 5GHz, 80MHz (or auto) should probs be around 800-1Gbps.

10Gbps is overkill for you, and is why:

I find the pricing of R10k doubtful as no one will ever manage to saturate it, it will be charged at something like what they think 2.5Gbps will be, so I would guess around the R3k mark (and again, for most ISP that will be the same whether you are on 100Mbps or 10Gbps since most servers on the other end can't do the speed, the ISP just has to be able to handle the burst for a few seconds, and you will most likely see a clause of 10Gbps local, 100Mbps international with bursting above 100Mbps possible which will be fine 90% of the time to get to the 1-10Gbps).
Yeah. 10K for 10gbit is not worth it. 1gbit is more than enough to be honnest. As i find that some sites only have limited bandwidth available specially on single stream downloads. So unless you doing many items at the same time.... or streaming Hulu,Netflix, Showmax, DSTV and Twitch all in 4K. at same time. i doubt you will do more than 1gbit at any given point

Twitch only goes up to 1080p at a maximum bitrate of a measly 8Mbps. But to put it into perspective, you would need to run 400 4K streams at the same time to saturate a 10Gbps line (based off of Netflix's 25Mbps recommendation).

So I think your usage would need to be much heavier than just watching a handful of 4K streams simultaneously for it to be worth it, more like downloading hundreds of GBs per day.

For the time being, I see no reason a home user would actually need 1Gbps, let alone 10Gbps. 200Mbps, as it is, is perfect since at least that speed is usable in most places for the home user. Steam tops out at around 25MB/s download speed.

A transfer rate of 25MB/s is plenty.

Higher speeds are necessary in fringe cases, but then you're probably better off with a business line.
y Steam maxed out my 1Gbps line speed. Do not know where u get that 25MBps idea.

Looks like this was all pie in the sky stuff? Not a single peep in 8 months?
After the Vodacom merger thing, Vodacom probably heard about Vuma's 10Gbps plan and got weak at the knees. I would assume:

Option A: 10Gbps 750GB + 10c/MB OOB
Option B: 10Gbps + 500GB FUP, thereafter 10Mbps uncapped
Option C: 10Gbps + 300GB anytime + 300GB night data + 100mins airtime + 1000 SMS + SIM card + free ring tone + Earbuds + 2GB Whatsapp data + 5GB YouTube + Blackberry screen protector + a free pen

T&Cs
- 36 month contract
- cancelation claw back
- annual CPI increase

:D

I'd imagine you're going to need a router with a Xeon processor if you want to have a 10gbit line

Nah unlikely anything commercial will change for a while, and for VC to conclude the deal of majority share will take quite a while with compcom etc.

What it may do is slow things down due to changes within the organisation.

I think he is saying that Vumatel made the 10gbps announcement to distract people from thinking about them increasing their prices.
Ok then, pretty random thought? And the announcement was ages ago.
