How long do the Brake Discs last? I am having issues with my ones but it's just been 45000km .. I don't think brake discs should need a replacement after that long. Thought it would last around 90k to 100k?

I think on most cars the brake discs doesn't last as long as it used to, on both my little shitty golf and my runx shape corolla years ago the brake discs lasted in excess of 120k km, on every single one of my newer cars it lasts around 60 k km. The Up especially, that things eats brakes.

are you talking about the pads or the discs?

depending on brand, type, driving style etc the pads could last anywhre from say 15k km to 60k km (fronts will generally wear twice as fast as the back at least - also depends if car is front or back wheel drive etc)

the discs could be anything from 50k km to 200k km, it really depends, hard pads will last longer but damage the disc faster, aggressive driving will heat the discs faster and lead to more wear etc etc

Ignoring the quality of disc fitted, it is entirely dependent on your right foot, both on the accelerator and brake pedals.

What car do you drive? What are your common trips like in terms of stop/start, cruising, traffic, etc?

As other has mentioned, brake disc wear is dependent on how hard and how often you brake - not so much mileage.

You can check if you need to change the disc using a measuring caliper to measure the wear limit.
Not sure what VW you are driving, but you can check the limit with a bit of googling.

Example wear limit for VW golf: http://www.vwgolf.org/front_brakes-2060.html

What kind of problems are you having with the brake discs?
^

On the hub section of the disk there should be a minimum wear measurement, ie 22mm. Its quite simple to measure the thickness of the disk to determine if its deemed too thin. A simple way to measure at home:

If you have any hairline cracks in the disk, and/or if your disks are warped a replacement is also recommended. When it comes to a critical safety component on your vehicle, dont be a cheapskate and skim disks

Driving a Polo .. I thought it would last longer.. Pads I changed 45k but discs I was told worn off .. so need to change the discs also after 5k ... Which I thought was odd .. expected them to last longer .. It's mostly long drives to PTA and JHB traffic ..
@TheChamp I am having vibrations when braking in long distance drives

Okay, brake disks are cheap, I am not opposed to skimming but if they need replacing then it shouldn't be a problem, although I doubt they need to be replaced.

What VW Polo? Discs should be available at Goldwagen for fairly cheap and are easy to replace.

This, I remember creating a thread about this when my car came back from its 75k service, and the stealership qouted me some serious cash as I needed to replace discs & pads front and rear. Anyway, only replaced the pads, took it the same stealership for 90k and they did not say anything, I am now on 215k whith same discs, just recently replaced the rear brake pads.

Exactly!
I replaced pads myself, a few months later took her in for cambelt, they said i need new pads urgently. it was about 10months after i changed them, but the kicker is that it was a weekend car, did about 1000km since i myself changed the pads.

What causes the disks to warp or get damaged easily is water when the disks are hot.

It purely depends on your driving. How long does your tyres last? If you drive a GTI and drive like an idiot, it wouldnt last long.

If you drive like a granny, it will last ages.
