VW gives Rimac control of Bugatti in electric supercar deal

Volkswagen AG will fold its ultra-luxury Bugatti brand into a joint venture with Croatian electric supercar maker Rimac Automobili, extending a lifeline to the boutique French manufacturer known for hulking 16-cylinder engines.

Rimac will hold a 55% stake in the joint venture with VW’s Porsche sports-car unit owning the remaining 45%, the companies said in a statement Monday. Porsche earlier this year lifted its stake in Rimac to 24%.

VW Chief Executive Officer Herbert Diess has stepped up efforts to focus funds on the German group’s namesake, Audi and Porsche brands as Europe’s biggest automaker embarked on the industry’s largest push into electric vehicles to challenge Tesla Inc.

I read that this was coming but I didn't see the Porsche 45 percent part, very interesting that.

The interesting thing is where is the Rimac going to be placed on the ladder, is Rimac going to be the flagship or is it going to be Bugatti?

Separate but equal, like an R8 and a Huracan?
Yes, I can see that happening.

Come to think of it, they play in the same space of the umbrella term of "hyper cars" but in a different way. I mean, the Bugatti would be the Rolls Royce of hypercars while the Rimac would probably be the Bentley?

I know if had Bizos' or even Motsepe's money, and looking for a hyper car, I would definitely pick the Bugatti over the Rimac. Funny how I would pick a Bentley over Rolls, though, when you flip the choices.

Heck, with that money I'd buy both the hypercars.
