This was back in the day when I used to say "full up", now I say "first click" as it's much quicker and would be more in the 41-43 range.

I've at most gotten 55 litres into my 53 litre tank. That was with a lot of rocking and swaying of the car. The first click on mine happens as soon as 51 litres if I fill up right after the reserve light appears.

I think you Durbanites are being taken for a ride...your litres are smaller than ours :D

VW's seem to be able to fit a lot more in than the specs say.

Big difference between a tiny 3 cylinder 1.2l Diesel and a larger 4 cylinder 1.4 petrol.
Yup the bigger motor has to work less on the highway so should in theory use less fuel. Same as on pull off the small engine needs more work. This is only my experience though.

Not if you're doing 69km/h.
As long as it's a constant 69 :).
Driving my wifes Spark on the highway it's horrible at fuel efficiency, but on city driving it's a lot better, so yeah between 50 to 80km/h the smaller motor will do better.

My wife gets 700km per tank out of her Spark. Thats with a 35 liter tank. That is about 20 km/l. Not bad

Sheesh don't think I've ever clocked more than 600 on a tank. Was even worse going on the highway :(.
On my Polo back in 2010 going to Mpumalanga and driving the surrounding area I managed 800 on its tank and that was petrol.
Think on my cruze I've hit 700,but it's a 60l tank.

No mention of the fact that they gyppo'd the fuel capacity and overfilled the manufacturer recommended capacity by 17 litres...
