VW Polo Drive Train Price: Is it reasonable?

Hi all

On request, VW issued to me a quote for the left and right drive shafts for
a 2009 6N Polo 1.6 classic. It was an eye-popping figure of R 15,726.00. Is
this a normal price or am I being cheated? This is only the purchase price,
no labor included.

My logic and cause of concern:

Goldwagen charges ~ R 600 and ~ R 500 for inner and outer c.v. joints
respectively and that's ~ R 2,200 . So can it be that the axles/shafts
cost ~R 13,000.00? I understand that there may be quality differences
in manufacturers.

Phone a different VW dealership and ask them for pricing on the parts that are going to be replaced.

Go buy it at goldwagen and find a good mechanic to fit it. That seems like daylight robbery to me. i'm assuming you don't have a maintenance plan based on the age of the vehicle.

I agree - according to the Kinsey report for 2009 & 2010 spares for the Polo were amongst the cheapest for category "B" cars.

Phone driveshaft centre. Ask them for diagnosis. Find out whether they can rebuilt the CVs. They can also supply whitebox spares.
