Good news for slow Internet in South Africa

A break in the West Africa Cable System (Wacs) off the coast of Congo has been repaired several days ahead of initial estimates, MyBroadband has learned.

A suspected rockfall in the Congo Canyon on 6 August caused separate breaks on Wacs and Telkom’s South Atlantic 3 (Sat–3) cables.

yet there is only 1 Ship that can repair these cables,
There seem to be only 60 ships globally that can lay cables, some of those are not deep water ships and others are intended for power cables and not optical.

Given these breaks are pretty infrequent, we're probably lucky to have one stationed in Cape Town at all.

@AfriNatic does this really mean anything at this point? I assume every ISP was on a contingency by now.
Hi.

Our Equiano route will remain the same; however, we may slowly reintroduce WASC. To make use of all our available capacity.

If anyone experiences changes for the worse, please let us know. You can provide a ping plotter or traceroute results, and we can talk with the team if we need to re-engineer our routes for the best interest of our clients.

No more excuses for slow Internet.

Indeed.
