So pls help me

I have never touched Linux before and would like to learn more about it on a spare PC I have at home. How do I start, where do I get everything needed and so on?

All help will be greatly appreciated :)

I would actually recommend Mint (if you going the Ubuntu way) for a first time user. Its a little more "complete" for a first time user, and based on Ubuntu anyway, so the support forum mentioned above can still be used.

Download: http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

Pitbull, I would also go for Ubuntu 10.04 - you can get online storage, there's an online music store and a really cool app store on its way as well.

Just much more connected than any other Linux distro. I feel you'll miss Windows less and less with what Ubuntu has to offer.

Actually, I would say try anything except Ubuntu first. The reason being is that the majority of new users migrate to Ubuntu within a year and stick with it for a long time (till they discover Arch).

You need to experiment with a couple of distros first as they all teach you how to be a better Linux user.

(Anyway, Ubuntu One is still a ****. Been one of there first users and they still cannot get close to DropBox. Its just a damn CouchDB instance - how hard is it to get it working !!!)

Ah, Fedora has knocked off Mint from its number 2 spot. Interesting.

Fsck that, I'm still using Slackware. I don't give a flying handshake what distrowatch says. :D
