Not throttled yet would consider moving if/when i'm throttled depending on how often I get throttled how harsh it is,currently not using enough to get throttled,as it current stands the account meets my requirements.

For all the people just quoting speedtest.net results... does your mweb account say throttled or unthrottled.

I should be hitting 100GB soon to see if they start throttling, then ill do a speed test before and after im throttled.

Mine says "Throttled." 1mb premium. The account is literally unusable.

Moved over to Afrihost and my torrents are running at good speeds EVEN during office hours. This was unheard of with Mweb. Glad to be leaving them.

I was initially of the same view, but lets say I get throttled, I will remain throttled for some undefined period during which I don't (can't) make use of the account, I now get unthrottled, so I use the account, at which point I again get throttled.

There is something, known as hysteresis, used by UPS manufacturers, whereby one can set a battery charge % below which the UPS will not switch on. This stops the nasty cyclic action of a UPS shutting down due flat battery caused by mains failure, and then when mains is resumed, the battery being charged to a small %, switching on and immediately going flat due to usage, recharging etc etc.

There is no reason to believe that such a cycle will not be introduced by Mweb due to their rolling average. IE you are throttled upon reaching some unspecified usage, you then use some small amount and once again immediately reach an unspecified limit and are throttled. It would seem that once throttled the only way to get back to what you thought you were paying for is not to use the service, while still paying for it, for a minimum of 31 days, which means making use of another ISP during the 31 days.

I dunno about you, but I am certainly not going to put myself in the position of purchasing an unusable product, especially when there are many other perfectly open and acceptable options available.

I've moved twice away from MWeb, both times I've come back due to getting worse performance from other ISPs. First was TRLTech then it was Afrihost when they were having all those issues with the MTN move over.
I also left Afrihost when they did the MTN switch over but I am back now and the internet access is pretty much perfect. Now as soon as they resolve the Supersport streaming I will be as happy as a ANC politician with a government credit card.

I was streaming supersport on Saturday via GlobalSports streams.
My 2mb line streamed perfectly but suddenly started buffering.
I wasn't sure why until Globalsports minimized their Supoersport stream and reset the stream.
So the problem was not with my ISP but rather Supersport, which apparently even in a 1st World country on some massive line, still occurs.

Mods killed my thread with this merge. It was supposed to be for feedback etc. The poll has nothing to do with the title.

It has moved in a more positive direction.

Nah it was a mistake.
The thread with the tip on how to check if you are throttled kind of became a project to see at what point you'd get throttled so we could kind of see what mweb's FUP is.. by posting what line you have, your usage and whether you were throttled or not.

Now it's turned into a moan fest about how bad the throttling is.

The poll is useless as well.

I discovered my account was throttled yesterday, cancelled it straight away and signed up with Afrihost, hell I even upgraded to 2 meg with Afrihost. Very happy with the speeds and service.
