Definitely very promising.

Unfortunately for Mbeki, our system isn't old-fashioned... its just dysfunctional because the guavamint haven't paid enough attention to it. He will still be known as the crime-denialist, no matter what he does.

The Budget is proposed in 2 months....

Actions speak louder than words.... until then, its all lip service for the ANC conference.

Anything "said" by any ANC official from Now until the conference conference (and usually in gerneral too) is exactly that, Lip Service.

aka, BULLSH*T.

I dont believe a word any of them say ever. Experience has taught us that that approach is usually correct. ;)

Nah, this is a very positive move.
Many people in this country are arrested yet the number that are effectively prosecuted is pathetic and this is probably the main reason why criminals seem to operate in our country with impunity.

Point taken about the budget but this is positive, long overdue, but very positive indeed.
Thabo might be wanting to apply a band aid to a gushing wound to better his own image, but it is still better than what has (or has not rather) been happening in the past.

All very nice in theory. Just a pity that's all it is - a nice idea. Even if the cops catch the crooks the justice system is hopelessly overloaded. And don't we have a general election coming up soon?

IBIWISI. The government makes all sorts of grand plans, lets see them being put into action and actually making a difference for a change. Why wasn't this done 5 years ago anyway?

A radical overhaul of the country's dysfunctional criminal justice system will see at least one out of every four police officers a detective
I have my misgivings about this, there is a big difference between a regular officer and a detective interms of the work required.

They have already tried this by sending officers straight from colledge into the dective units, it didnt work out very well.

Hopefully they get it right this time
