Alright, I've booked a Kia Prego, 8 seater (more if we squeeze) for this Sunday. Cost is R865, and as I've said I'm happy to cover half, or everything. I implore the people that have confirmed to pitch up though. I don't mind the cost, but I'd like to think that this is a fun excursion, and wouldn't like to be doing it on my ownsome.

I currently have 4 (3) confirmed people. Even if you can't get your laptop with, come join in the fun, and the drinks for the day, whilst we discover the extent of MyWireless's suckiness.

We're meeting at the M^A Coffee Shop (Master Antonio, above the Nedbank cinema) in Rosebank mall, first level, at 10:00am on Sunday 18th July. From there, I can take people to unpaid parking a block away (if required) and we can take the Kia on the road. If there's anyone with 802.11 adapters wishing to 'explore' they're welcome to join too.

Should you be interested, or have already confirmed, please reply to this thread, or again, confirm with me by mailing rodent@rodent.za.net. If we're more than the Kia can take, we just take an additional car... We will be taking a drive from Killarney, Rosebank, Woodmead, Fourways then pass around and visit the Randburg area tower(s), and double back the loop to my personal favortite, Brixton. I'll work out some more details today, but I expect we won't be back in the Rosebank area before 16:00 on Sunday.

Thereafter beers and discussion at the Moosehead, ground level Rosebank mall, for anyone else that wishes to join and discuss the issues regarding Sentech. All welcome. Even Sentech employees.

Cheers,
RoDent.

lik i mentioned previously i have a t-RUSTy (& smelly) honda fourstroke petrol generator that will fit into a large booted car. Its very noisy thou.

Dont know what ppl will think if we stop, fire up the generator, plug in our 'top 'puters and 'test'

I also have a problem that my laptop does not charge, so i need power to test, unless i can 'borrow' one from my family

Feelings lads?

Erm, well, my 802.11 card broke :( But if we have some form of a power supply to hook up the access point (wich can be used like a card :), it could be cool, it also has 8dbi patch antenna.

And I confirm that I will come. I just cant say if I'll have a laptop, but the chances are pretty high.

Hmm Think we need to do this in Cape Town some time. Pity that not all the towers are up and runing. Good luck guys. Would love to see the results. IF u were in CT I could lend u a DC/AC convertor that will power a few laptops :)

Can Take my van with if we need to load plenty equipment(cool boxes included)

Unless we get another generator........bring the trusty on four stroke

I think if everyone can bring an extension cord and a multiplug......plenty of power can be spread......

My laptops battery has also died and a new one costs more than what it is worth so if we have power I will be testing as well

Just had an idea.....any one got contacts for that digital cut logo/words etc (sorry brain is fried due to no bandwidth).....that we can stick on the windows of the vehicle

Maybe a flag or 2 etc

Another thought is tables so that the laptops dont sit on the ground.....

Lets do it in style and organised...... I have one of those plastic tables ( 4 legs and a top - quick to put up)

What do you think

And it'll be usefull if you know the way :) Else I have to figure it out :)

Hmm, 8 nerds travelling around in an enclosed metal cage (no offense to Kia) with their laptops transmitting 5 W of rf power each?
Hope you guys have a few brain cells left afterwards! [:p]

Why dont you use a 12v - 220v inverter while driving? That can charge the laptops and modems.. not that I have one.. but I know they arent THAT expensive. That will be a lot quiter than a gennie.
