I just got a worrying call from Sentech.

They indicated that my account wasn't paid on the 1st of September and that they would debit my account tommorrow.

I know for a fact that it was paid - having checked my account online.

I persued the matter and got hold of the billing department.

It turns out there's an error on Sentechs side and that they are phoning all thier clients to inform them that they will debit the accounts tommorrow.

So, CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT NOW ! - make sure it's been paid, get hold of Sentech and tell them this, otherwise they will debit you again !

You should receive a phone call today according to the person I spoke to.

I'm off to my bank right now to put a stop on anything related to sentech from going through, as it's obvious they have totally b0rked up their billing system yet again.

Ok, after a bit of running around, I found that Nedbank, loverly people that they are, charge R85 to put a stop order on a debit.

Sorry, but no thanks.

I got in touch with Sentech again - through the Orc line, total waste of time - first guy I spoke to I clearly stated I'd like to speak to the accounts department, to which I got a reply after a 5 second duhhhh delay "how can I help you sir ?" - ask again, duhhhh - there is no brain here.

Screw that, put the phone down and tried again.

Second guy :-

Orc - I can log a ticket for you
me - er no, I want to speak to someone about my account status
Orc - sorry sir, I cannot do that
me - Why ?
Orc - we are outsourced and only handle technical enquiries
me - Ok, can I have a number for the accounts department
Orc - sorry sir, we do not have numbers for the accounts department, but I can log a ticket and someone will call you
me - but I pretty much know that they won't
Orc - yes sir they will
me (getting pissed off) - why can't you give me a contact number
Orc - I don't have the number
me - so you don't have an accounts department ?
Orc - we are outsourced ... etc.

Put the phone down and go direct to head office.

me - hi, I'd like to speak to somebody in connection with my account
Orc - I'll transfer you

Get someones answering machine, to which I leave a message "I want to speak to a person, not a recording"

Phone head office again.

Get through to somebody who is obviously more interested in having lunch than dealing with a client

me - hi, I'd like to speak to somebody in connection with my account
Orc - sorry, they are not here right now
me - is there anyone I can speak to in connection with my account ?
Orc - sorry, they are on lunch
me (insistent) - I need to speak to somebody NOW
Orc (worried) - er, ok, I'll transfer you

I can clearly hear them say to another worker "How do you transfer ?"
I hear the other worker tell them how

Finally :-

helpful person - hi, how can I help you
me - I need to speak to somebody in connection with my account (I give my details)
helpful person (much shuffling of papers and hold for a bit) - hi sir, yes, I will make sure you go down on my list as having paid on 1st september
me - so what happened to your billing ?
helpful person (sounding flustered and irritated) - a portion of our clients did not get billed on the 1st, we are contacting them
me - so your billing system kinda "fell over" then ?
helpful person - yes (sounding pretty pissed off), it happened again

Note, the above is in "so many words" - I don't have the ability to record my calls, but it's pretty much exactly what happened and fairly unsuprising to anyone who has dealt with Sentech before.

So there we have it - after 1 hour, I hopefully got through to billing and found someone to manually flag my account on thier list of users that I have actually been debited on the 1st - I finally found another helpful person at sentech - they are outnumbered about 10 to 1 it seems.

A big thanks goes out to the only competent person I could find today at Sentech - you know who you are, because your one of the few that actually can do your job properly.
