Warning for taxi owners in South Africa

Defending these patrols, the South African National Taxi Council’s (Santaco’s) Mpumalanga chairperson, Fanyana Sibanyoni, claimed they were for security purposes, stating, “Every company has the right to have security to look after their businesses.”

So if I open a restaurant the Wimpy across the road can threaten people to not eat by me?

By Santaco's logic, yes.

And it gets even worse if you open the restaurant and Wimpy thinks you are charging your customers, then the Wimpy can drag them out at gunpoint and force them to eat at the Wimpy.

It's a mafia, run like a mafia, simple as that.

Who exactly are these Patrols protecting the industry from? Criminals, themselves, competitors..

More "monitoring the situation" from our authorities instead of enforcing the law and stamping out this illegal behaviour from the taxi associations.
As of today, the taxi industry is arguably better armed and organised than the SAPS and SANDF combined.

Obviously this will hamper efforts and makes this "warning" not worth the paper it is printed in.

Of course the warning will just get ignored, the taxi industry does whatever it wants anyway and we all know this.

The problem is that a lot of owners of these Taxis are ANC bigshots.

This billboard is supposed to be funny. But in reality its sad that breaking the law is so common that no one even refers to the emergency lane anymore

This so-called “warning” would amount to absolutely nothing, we all know that. It's easier to go after soft targets. The organisations that are supposed to enforce the rule of law are too scared to do anything or just don't want to.
Example, where I came to a stop at a red robot. Traffic cops standing there with the taxi's, as usual, ignoring the red robot and the cops just looking the other way and fining an average citizen for stopping their car over the line.

Yeah, when I drove past this bill board on the N2, I did laugh, but sad laugh though.

I'm just wondering, if you are driving with people you picked up, because you were dumb, and did not care about your safety and gave say 2 people a lift, here comes one of these taxi patrol cars and they try and force you to stop, you have a firearm, assuming these guys are trying to hijack you and you fire on them, what would be the repercussions from this?

"Authorities" better watch it. Taxi owners are going to send government a warning any day now. Taxi owners are generally better armed than these authorities.
