A taxi driver was fined R5 000 after he was found to have 25 passengers in his taxi in Durban last week.
According to eThekwini metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad, the traffic officers had set up a routine checkpoint along South Coast Road when the taxi was stopped.
"Although overloading is a common problem, it is very unusual to find 25 people in a taxi and we have a zero-tolerance approach to things like this," said Sewpersad.
"These people are someone's family members, you cannot load them like sardines, so we view this as a serious traffic offence."
