You're right they never had beams. They are super cheap in the overall scheme of the total cost of electronic gates.
And as soon as the guy stepped in front of the beam the gate would've opened again?
That's kind of the point. I would encourage settings and setups that create a lower *likelihood* of someone reaching the gate before it closes.
Edit: If I recall correctly there is even a setting on Centurion motors, maybe Dace too, which enables you to override that. These installers just fit your motor with the defaults. The multitude of options is really quite useful. You can set your beams to have the gate remain open as long as the beam is interrupted. Then as soon as soon as the beams see each other again for 0.1s or longer it will close no matter what- irrespective of whether the beam is interrupted again by an obstacle. Beams don't cost much so people should really install them.
