According to an ATC controller, the pilot of the RV-10 said he was dropping off a friend who needed to catch a connecting flight. As you do."

The video has since gone viral across several social media platforms, raising safety concerns at South Africa's busiest international airport.

Traveller24 contacted Air Traffic Navigation Services at OR Tambo International, with ATNS spokesperson Percy Morokane confirming the incident.

ATNS is aware of the video clip that is currently on some social media platforms. As it is procedural, this incident was reported to the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) soon-after it happened on Tuesday, 29 August 2019.

I wonder if the passenger was allowed to board. Doesn't sound like the aircraft was even detained let alone arrest the arrogant ****.

WTAF?

Does this oke drive taxis in his spare time? I'd say he definitely got the call to report to the tower.

Reminds me of Harrison Ford landing on a taxiway by accident, narrowly passing overhead a 737 waiting for departure, but that was an accident.

ive often wondered about things like this,

I mean are general aviation aircraft allowed to even use the same taxiways as the bigger jets?
if they have clearance, they can pretty much go anywhere?

or is it there are certain "no-Go" zones they simply cant go as they please.

Flight plan was filed, nothing wrong here except for the taxiway landing, normal general aviation aircraft are allowed to land at Or Tambo

Source for that? The guy in the article is quoted as saying otherwise...

"A RV-10 light aircraft entered the airspace at OR Tambo without having filed a flight plan and proceeded to land on the taxiway adjacent to the runway closest to the terminal building, while other aircraft were queuing up to take off. According to an ATC controller, the pilot of the RV-10 said he was dropping off a friend who needed to catch a connecting flight. As you do."

Where did you get this ? As per article, plan wasn't filed.

According to some posts on the avcom forum the pilot had a flight plan for FABL-FAOR, the poor sod however landed on the taxiway instead of runway 03L. It's not the first time this has happened and won't be the last.

Avcom is frequented by people from the local aviation sector and I tend to trust what gets posted there more than what the media says. There will be an investigation which will be published.

Portrait-style cell phone videos should be banned:mad:

He must have called the ATC on the radio and requested permission to land which is quite normal .
If he was denied permission then it is a big deal .

You go where they tell you to, when they tell you. The thrust from a Heavy is enough to blow that kite off the runway.

Did the pilot remember to activate airplane mode when the cell phone was used? ;)
