Agreed Cape Town drivers are not the best, hence you stick to the road rules/limits, to give yourself bit more time to react, to the retards on the road...Sea/Green Point...Nanville...how some of those seniors get their driver's renewed, only a Prince Phillip would now. As for on the freeway...I stick to the slow lane mostly....testosteroneville in the fast lane...speed limit is 120 - but retards think that is the minimal speed and flash their lights if you dare not make way for them. Dont get me started on Uber drives,...not sure where they scratch and pick their licenses from. Again, speed decreases the time you have to react.

Its not the fast lane, its the over take lane. Goes back to the first few rules. Keep left pass right. And also note that you cant say what speed those people were doing. I never sit in the fast lane doing 140. I always go back to the third lane.

When I am in the 4th lane doing 140 I ensure I get back to the third lane ASAP.

Not to mention at the speed they were going he probably wasn't even aware of their existence till they were right next to him.
Yeh but he had no chance either way. He could easily have looked in his mirror, and saw the 1st car squeezing through on hi right, then slightly moved to the left. Had he done that, that BMW would have hit him at such a high speed, that I doubt they would have made it out alive

This is one of the arguments. You can be The Stig for all we know but on a public road your skills don't mean shyte.

I'm going to be a naai here and jump in on this. Don't take this the wrong way :)
I was listening coupla years ago on a radio station a chat with a traffic officer and the question was what is the #1 road rule in RSA.
Keep Left Pass Right
huh? i was amazed to hear that but anyways it has always been on the back of my mind ever since.
Just did a simple google search and the results are
http://aadrivingacademy.co.za/south-african-rules-of-the-road/
:)

I know, but it's like the pirate code, more of a suggestion.

I do not see anything that says "keep in the left most lane unless overtaking"

I know about this one. That's the pastors daughter right? Relative of mine are friends with them. She's making a great recovery and already practicing her Ballet again :) (For those who care)

That being said, it's still very rare and the reason I said 9/10. You do get the odd occasion where a bike T-boned a car and the driver or passenger also dies. But going the same direction, 10/10 only the biker will get rekt!
Happened on Sunday at virgin active sea point , bike t-boned the car Screenshot_2019-01-20-13-48-20-163_com.twitter.android.jpeg

They are only indicating their wish to overtake you, and legally you are then required to move to a lefter lane, if safe to do so.

I just remember hearing the traffic cop on the radio saying that was the #1 rule :) I think it is weird that THAT is #1, can think of some that are more important peronally

I am assuming :
Cheap tyres + High speed + low skill + public road + Nanny aids switched off + traffic moving slower than you + Loosing a rwd bites if not skilled + ego = something has to go wrong.

In Cape Town people mostly drive well below the speed limit. They're a menace.

Quote said law or else your last part applies.
Well, signs say "keep left, pass right". Nothing more. The law (road traffic act) states that you must obey these signs. The road rules also state:

Any person driving a vehicle on a public road shall do so by driving on the left side of the roadway and, where such roadway is of sufficient width, in such manner as not to encroach on that half of the roadway to his or her right.

Choose any three and it would still be a cock up. :)

Along as manufacturer's sells fast powerful cars, people will compete. Don't thinkthey can stop it. Best would be to remove the innocent bystander from the equation and give them a dedicated road to go crazy.

Wont solve anything but at least innocent motorists will be out of danger.

This is even simpler..

Its a complete lack of critical thinking, and the ability to actually drive a car responsibly.
