So does this guy actually have any chance of recovery? I read some people saying he's brain dead, legs amputated and the likes. but no sources :(

Along as manufacturer's sells fast powerful cars, people will compete. Don't thinkthey can stop it. Best would be to remove the innocent bystander from the equation and give them a dedicated road to go crazy.

Wont solve anything but at least innocent motorists will be out of danger.

Bugger that - if all cars came with a lawnmower engine that could do max 20km/h there would be plenty people sticking turbo's and whatnot on to make them go faster ;-)

Well, signs say "keep left, pass right". Nothing more. The law (road traffic act) states that you must obey these signs. The road rules also state:

Any person driving a vehicle on a public road shall do so by driving on the left side of the roadway and, where such roadway is of sufficient width, in such manner as not to encroach on that half of the roadway to his or her right.

Here is a old thread from 2013 mentioning a lack of those signs:

Hey everyone

Something that has been bothering me for some time now is, where did all the "keep left, pass Right" signs on the highway disappeared to? The reason I ask is, the signs in itself was a method of training people on the roads as to how to handle any part of the highway, whether two lanes, 3 or whatever.

I am on the road everyday and I see this every single day. Slow moving vehicles moving in the middle or right hand lanes and not going to the left lane. It would seem to me that very few people adhere to this rule.

Any thoughts?

Regards

Dep

I personally can't remember when last I saw one (definitely have seen "do not litter" ones). And from what I can recall it was not instructional colours (red and white) and more like an informational colour scheme.

And I have actually seen that done, several times. Especially the KUBOTA ride-on variety... friggen turbo lawnmower!

Nobody contested that it's not a law (well keep left, pass right actually isn't the law) it's the rietrot's idea that it covers all lanes on a multi lane highway.

Meanwhile it only applies to the further right lane and has jack **** to do with anything left of it.

The law actually doesn't say anything about keeping left. It just says you must move left if someone wants to pass while you are in the right most lane...but that is very hard to put on a slogan and publish for the masses to understand.

Seems the law states that you need to move over to a left lane if someone wants to pass you....
This explains it:

This just isn't true. There are plenty of cars out there that are faster than bikes, and they're not as rare or exclusive as you might think.
Not as easy with other traffic on the road. As shown in the video.

And also note that you cant say what speed those people were doing.

That won't be hard to calculate, measure the distance from white line to white line and apply v=d/t.

They were exceeding the speed limit, by how much becomes irrelevant after that.

Then you can go the your nearest police station and accuse them of speeding.

The police should go plain clothes through these gatherings in future with full colour pics of his body and his car after the accident, only thing I can think of is that these guys all think they are bullet proof and never consider the consequences of what could happen at that speed.
