I honestly do not care what speed people drive at, I care about reckless driving / endangerment of others though.

Sadly we have this whole "speed kills" bullshyte stuck in everyone's brain so most people assume speeding = reckless driving / endangerment. It. Does. NOT.

If this guy was in the middle of nowhere in the Karoo doing the same speed in broad daylight with nobody else in sight all the way to the horizon I would actually feel a bit sorry for what he is going through now. Not THAT much though; it would still be his fault and he'll be reaping what he sowed, but at least I wouldn't think he's just an a-hole.

What we see in the video is clearly both reckless and endangerment of others, so F-him.

Exactly. Still wonder about my earlier statement. If a law passes making urban areas 20KM/h and highways 80KM/h what then? Will people complain about people going 120KM/h?

There is no legitimate purpose/reason for a car to go over the speed limit
Medical emergency, your wife is bleeding out in the passenger seat next to you, there's no ambulance that can help in time, the hospital is 10km away and you're in an M3 ... what do you do? what should you do?

That's a legitimate reason to speed fyi, court will clear you of any charges if it is truly legitimate.

Sums up the mentality behind these races quite well.

They can share/ not share all the pics they want regardless .If it ends up in court/insurance claim or a life policy claim they will simply go to bmw and ask for a ECU report . That ECU report will tell them where the car was (GPS) , what speed it was going at (ECU) , what gear the car was in (TCU) and which side made impact first and last (ECU) so it doesn't really matter if you share or not .The only reason not to share is out of respect for the family

Stupid idiot.

Blame everyone else except the idiot driver who endangered himself and everyone around him.

He jeopardised his family and its financial situation, not anyone else.

It comes as no surprise that people who race ilegally and drive recklessly have no concept of responsibility.

I'd still only drive the legal limit.. only illegal thing i'd do in this scenario is yield at the red robots and even then it would me with a lot of flashing lights, hooting and doing so when safe to do so. In such a scenario your mental state might actually count against you going faster btw as you are distracted.

Maybe that means wfie will die.. but atleast i won't be taking myself and others out in the process.

Well, let's just say I'm supremely happy we're not married ...

I'd be going as fast as is reasonably safe to do given than one life is guaranteed to be lost if I go slow. I don't let my mental state dictate my driving fyi, neither should you, but cold logic would have me going f-ing fast regardless.

I'm more referring to the "freak" out statement. For example, A hyundai i10 doing 140+ ( if it can even ) may freak someone out because the car isn't really built for those speeds and can possibly feel unstable to the driver, however a more expensive car that has much better suspension, handling etc etc may not create that same feeling.

I've never driven an M3 nor at those speeds but I would think at it's price tag, the technology and engineering that's gone into it would make doing 240+ feel like an entry level car doing 120+.
I've done those speeds in an M3 on a test track with a stunt driver. Let me tell you it is SUUUUUUPER fast. If anything out of the ordinary happens there is zero time to do a think.
These fools driving like this on public roads is endangering innocent people. ALL of them should be rounded up and prosecuted, and their cars should be impounded.
Also, remember, even though a car CAN do that speed, doesnt mean you should. A lot of what makes these cars so great is the power, which is why I think people hate BMW's in general. They are rear wheel drive, and very powerful, so they have a really direct, pointed feeling when driving. It's easy to just dip into a gap, or swing past someone. I've pondered this a lot, since I often get abuse on the roads for doing things that are very tame if you were in the car with me.

Illegal street racing is ILLEGAL regardless of the posted speed limit for the street its done on.

This thread is more about illegal street racing, than the posted speed limits.

"As petrolheads we all understand the risks"

So what you are saying is that despite understanding the risks of putting innocent lives at risk of injury and death you continue to do it.

You have just admitted to willfully, deliberately and recklessly endangering other lives.

"I'm not an expert"

You should have cut your sentence short right there instead you went on valiantly and displayed to the entire country the types of attitudes that prevail in your petrolhead community and thus successfully stripping away any last fragments of sympathy and understand.

Thank-you Nazeem Brenner. You have cleared up any and all doubts that may have remained.

Same here. My SO went into labor the first time at 6 months with my son only weighing 900g at the time, drove at very high speeds to pick her up and take her to hospital.
