Just grateful there wasn't anyone in the incoming lane at the time

Yip. Happened to me and my mom on our way back from Cape Town to Paarl when I was visiting her in school holiday many years ago. This was not a blatant irresponsible act as this guy in this "accident" ..... but it shows how bad this could have been. This guy pretty much started his accident in the slow lane of his side, and ended up on the slow lane of the other side. So what, that is 3 lanes his side and another 3 opposite traffice .... so 5 lanes his car skidded across. So 1 car per lane potentially ..... that comes to potentially 5 other cars it could have involved in this reckless act. Lets say 1.5 people per car (considering Saffers like having our cars to ourselves" = that comes to almost 7 people this single accident might have affected had it not been that late at night or a very busy highway.

That's pretty sad. What car was the other car? No matter how irresponsible I feel bad for his wife and two young kids.
Not sure what the other car was.

Latest update from my friend who visited him this evening at hospital is that he might pull through but will probably be in a vegetative state. His wife is also 2 months pregnant. He has a few other cars including 2 x lumina SS, R34 Skyline, R33 skyline and a BMW M135i

If engine popped it wouldn’t have spun out.

Oil is likely the aftermath of the event, not the cause.

well theres a big oil mess at about the place where he lost control.

also, a popped engine can leave oil on the rear wheels sometimes, and its a rear wheel drive

It was his choice, his wife was also fully aware of his street racing. Actions have consequences. Fsck him, we should all be glad he did not take out any others in his arrogant disregard for the lives of others. World will be a better place without him and his ilk.

**** man. If any one of those cars in front of him decides to change lanes, the paramedics will be collecting what's left of him with a sponge!

He collected the rear end of a truck a few years ago and passed away.

Deceleration forces (against a fixed object) are proportional to the square of the speed (which is why they say "speed kills"). A 30km/h impact is pretty harmless ('fender bender'), 60km/h starts to get serious (particularly if not wearing a seat-belt), 120km/h and beyond gets deadly (which is why highways have crash barriers around concrete bridges). This guy was seriously lucky he only "slid" along the barrier and rolled, not hit anything solid.

Formula: a=v^2/2s
Deceleration equals velocity squared divided by twice the distance. The "stopping" distance varies: frontal-impact crumple-zones, side-impact curtain-airbags, etc.

Pedestrians have much less cushioning, so urban areas have much lower speed limits (60km/h down to 20-30km/h in school-zones), since anything beyond that is not survivable.
Exactly.
The primary factor is the speed, deceleration is unwanted consequence, followed by the effects.

Thats harsh man but I can't disagree with you. He's an adult and he knew what he was doing.

Wonder what possesses a man to feel that this is what makes him proud of his son.

As far as he's concerned this is as close he'll get to producing a Lewis Hamilton.
