you guys do know bmw sell additional performance parts/packages too...

then there are people like ac schnitcher, alpina, hamann

Yes indeed. Those additional performance packages also retain the BMW warranty and motorplan. Reason is they are developed by BMW.

AC Schnitcher is often endorsed by BMW SA.

How about the city just put up some speed traps under the bridges there in the mean time. Nope, they'd rather hide that portable trap behind the hill on the M5 to make money rather.

You think these people are racing like this with numberplates on?

Actually....they do. Or let me rather say, every single one I have seen.

I know @NarrowBandFtw will disagree with me about the whole RWD thing, but my encounters with them, few they may be, always left me with a bit of poef in my broek when it comes to those without some sort of ESP.

FWD cars are inherently more prone to understeer and RWD with ESP will try to give you the same experience. My mom's W203 with ESP has not scared me like the old W202 because it has ESP, even in wet when driving badly.

Now I might sound like a old fuddy duddy but I believe you should not be able to turn electronic aids in road going cars.

This is a very valid point.

Most of the people on our roads shouldn't be allowed to turn off any of those features.

In fact nobody should be allowed to turn them off unless they are verified to be at a track day with GPS or something because most people who go "check this move" have no clue how to drive without it.

And anyone who claims it slows them down is either driving very kak....or way too fast to be legal in the first place.

And you think those plates are legit? As registered to the car? Unlikely.

Just think about this for a moment. These are people who have no problem at all driving double the speed limit and partaking in criminal activity.

Do you honestly think they'll draw the line at running with legal numberplates?

point remains, once a car leaves the showroom, one is allowed to do whatever modification and adjustment one wants,

if you are stupid enough to drive like a P0es, and race around making a nuisance of oneself, no amount of electronic nannies will prevent you from having fun.

is there a way to deal with this? in a word? no, stupid people will always find a way to mess around and cause chaos,
the luck in this case was he only killed himself, and didn't plow into a packed shopping mall running over innocent bystanders.

I don't believe switching off the ESP or preventing it from being turned off would have made much of a difference,
next thing you know, one of these professors of Chaos will tie a JATO rocket to their BMW and try to literally take off.

only to remember there is no possible way a BMW can brake from 600KM/H. and physics cant be messed with.

They are actually legit. I have never ever met someone who does this who would bother to go and make fake plates just for this. 99% of the time these guys are never caught. So there is no real risk or reason to make fake plates. The races I used to attend were however very very late at night on deserted roads. When headlights are spotted in the distance, race is off. I have attended illegal races in quite a few cities. What happened here however, with this much traffic is something I have not seen before.

Yeah deserted roads in industrial areas they wouldn’t make the effort I agree.

But many of these okes run dodgy plates or no plates at all on the daily.

Same here. I remember being part of a BMW breakfast run here in Gauteng. The police closed off all N1 highway onramps between Zambesi and Brakfontein interchange. Drivers were allowed to play a little bit but it was all in better-controlled manner. The idea was to set a record for the longest BMW M convoy.

For most parts, there are tracks where people can drag race or race tracks when people need to track their cars.

Seeing as its already gone off topic, the above ads reminds me of the BMW ad showing the occupants surviving a drop off the scenic road to Hout Bay, and later the Land Rover safely driving down and back up the path the BMW fell.
That was before BMW owned Land Rover.
