Just realized - all our ire seems directed at the idiot that crashed (rightfully so). Need to funnel some of that toward the biker idiot and the other dumbass in the cage. Press should release their names too I reckon.

I'm still not entirely convinced the biker even knew he was racing (facetious)

The insider sources aren't really that reliable.
Best ask thestaggy's second cousin who knows a guy that has a friend who was on the bridge that spoke to a girl who was dating the driver's friend and they said he is brain dead or something like that

I saw a pic with him up and conscious in hospital, smiling. Just one, which you can notice the various lengths of amputations on each leg.

On a human level, I hope he makes the best recovery he can. I'm sure this was life changing for him. There's a lot that could have happened.
He was selfish in his act and paid a massive price for it.
Life taught him a lesson and no one else was hurt, took away his opportunity to do similar anytime soon.
May he enjoy his time with wife and children, it's going to be a massive adjustment to now start living without legs.

Humans make mistakes and stupid decisions.
Hopefully the publicity of this event dissuades people from racing in this manner, take it to the track! Of course some will continue regardless.

true
but stairs - surely there will be significant areas of zero friction between tires and "road surface" ?

Maybe.

But at the same time my brain says there would be constant contact patch friction just at different areas than conventionally expected.

For most parts, there are tracks where people can drag race or race tracks when people need to track their cars.

Here lies the issue. With many tracks closed down and remaining tracks are over 50k to rent for a day few clubs can afford it. Only way to stop this madness is to allocate an abandoned road once a week. have metro present.
Let them race in a environment that has no innocent public.

Once a week you race there for free. If you caught racing on a public road then crush the car.

After looking at that pic - the sympathetic human side in me kicks in - and I can't help but feel somewhat sorry for the guy. In retrospect he could've killed someone in his need for speed, in reality though he didn't. Can't live in 'what could have happened' world I guess.

Hope the 'community' takes lessons out of this one and more thought is put in to how peoples idiotic actions can have a detrimental ripple effect on others.

Not sure if it has been posted but there might have been a passenger in the car if this video is anything to go buy.
