Two dudes standing in the driveway talking, car pulls up and the guy pulls a gun. Dude in shorts and a T shirt happens to be armed on a casual Sunday afternoon. Whats the back story here ?
Seems like they were planning a hit, and he's been expecting it.

This.. it was my 1st reaction. Who the hell is this guy? Because I don’t know a lot of people who have guns and will be chilling outside their home with it in a hip holster unless they expect ****. The guys I know have guns have it for work in dodge areas with cash.. not really for home security. So yah.. would not be the 1st hit in recent months.

Lonehill is not exactly a place to have a random driver by.. for what exactly? There is no car in the drive way.. if it was a robbery 3+ guys would jump out and usually they want to get you in house.. not outside.

You don't know a lot of people then. Lots, and I mean LOTS of people carry guns with them 24/7. Often the ones you least expect. You don't carry a gun because you expect to be a target, just like you don't fasten your seat belt because you expect to be in an accident. You do it because it gives you an upper hand should it happen anyway.

Or he is just a sensible South African, who decided to obtain a firearm?

Nope.. either he has some dodge dealings or works in high risk. But in the latter case you would not be outside your home in a closed off road with a gun (unless there was an incident recently..).

More to this story I reckon.. it wasn’t a robbery.

Yah but they business owners or petrol station etc. not illicit product sales & fraudulent dealings with gov officials as many hits have been of late in Jhb over the last 2yrs.

Fastening you’re seat belt is standard protective so I’m not sure what u trying to say. It’s pretty obvious this isn’t a robbery but hey believe what u want.

Go find stats on day time incident like this where it’s “just a robbery”.

Strangely, all the gun owners I know, including myself carry their guns EVERYWHERE.

You are right. All our neighbours, my friends, not a single person I know is walking without a gun. There is a 77 year old neighbour of mine who permanently walks with two firearms - one on his ankle and one in a side holster. I also see more and more civilians carrying arms in shopping centers.

“The boom slowed them down. As I got home, I put my bike in my car port, park my truck inside. My son came out and took my dog inside.

“They then came past in the white Mercedes, I thought it was neighbours or visitors going to a few houses down from me,” the man told Nationwide Crime SA.

So the answer is no.. he wasn’t just standing outside with a gun. He was out and noticed them following him, came home, got the gun (I guess) and then they came.

I stand by what I said.. if it was that he was just chilling outside it would be a hit. But as reported above that wasn’t the case.. he had a follow/robbery incident which is different!

Ps. Must have a pricey bike.

Jissus why can't you just believe that there are sensible people out there that carries everywhere, the entire day? If he went to go fetch his pistol do you think he would have fetched the holster also?

No, he had it on him the entire day, like most of us do.

I know plenty of people who carry 24/7, no matter what the occasion. Hell there is one guy at work that works in an office and doesn't have a high risk job but he carries, its not something out of the ordinary

Pretty much what was said. He takes his dog for a ride around the area. (I hear he has a bike with a sidecar) and when coming back, picks up they are following him (Expensive looking watch?)
Gets back, the car is slowed by the boom gates. He gets home...son comes out to take the dog. Car goes past....he is already watching them. Turns around and parks in front of him. When the guy exits with a gun, it is time for action.
And yes....he hit the guy multiple times. Not sure if fatal.

I want to counter that it could ever have been a hit as the bad guy would've come out shooting and not given him a chance. This conforms with someone jumping out and shouting something along the lines of give me your wallet or keys or whatever, trying to be intimidating.

Have you seen what cars look like here in SA after a hit? Like swiss cheese. This was a robbery. Maybe planned in the sense that they knew they wanted the bike or whatever, but not a hit.

Nope, normal private people. It's what people do. I can point out plenty of guys who's used their pistols in recent years, people I know, in self-defense. Just because the concept is foreign to you, doesn't make it false. Hell, I was involved in "just a robbery" not a month ago, and the minutes before leading up to that I was in the street outside, gun on my person. Also right next to me where I was working when the bastard decided to break open the garage door and steal a bicycle.

And no, I'm not a business owner or petrol station etc. or anything. I'm a plain Joe.

Clearly the MSM are NOT printing / investigating anywhere near the number of "incidents" that are actually happening !

Handgun helps but is not really the answer
