The yank is jumping the gun there it seems to me. Foreigners are supposed to pay fines immediately as far as I understand. Not sure if it's at the roadblock or you go to their office but my understanding is you pay before proceeding.

Interesting, I never knew this, is there somewhere I can read up on this?

Never heard of the spot fine for international drivers.

I don't believe that its a cut and dry case, but the fine going from R600 to R200 is suspicious.

The concept of a spot fine is a case of misunderstood wording.

It’s meant to be a fine ISSUED “on the spot” instead of after the fact which is the case for most fines with mobile cameras as it’s hand written there and then and amounts to an instant summons effectively and is quite legal.

I’m sure most people here have received one of those as opposed to getting one in the mail after the fact.

However it is never ever a case for needing to be paid on the spot, for the very reason that it opens everything up to corruption.

Do they actually do this? The local traffic department isn't even aware of a fine I got in Hermanus.

Probably not, but it’s the way it’s meant to work I believe.

Foreigners generally aren’t lawless heathers like is locals and just go pay the damn things.

There is NO SUCH THING as a "spot fine", let alone one that must be paid immediately. Corruption & extortion go hand in hand with traffic law enforcement & little is being done to stop it. Traffic authorities have been TALKING ABOUT body cams for ages. That's ALL they do. Talk!
With that confirmed, I look forward to the arrest and prosecution of the cop.

You don't?
I don't, I can see a lawyer easily explaining their client out of trouble, there is nothing that is explicit enough on that video for anyone to be confident of a successful criminal prosecution, unless I missed something.

There is also enough explicit on that video to cost the cop their job though which is the least that should happen...
