Beware dye-stained banknotes in South Africa

The South African Banking Risk Information Centre (Sabric) has warned that people in possession of dye-stained banknotes make themselves suspects of a criminal investigation.

This warning followed civil unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, during which hundreds of ATMs were targeted by criminals.

banknotes?? What are those? I vaguely remember an archaic time when people would use pieces of paper to pay for things.

"”[earth] has, or had, a problem which was this: Most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much all of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper… which is odd, because on the whole, it wasn’t the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy...” -- Douglas Adams "

The stained notes are recognised as having no monetary value once they are stained.
While it is true that stained notes have no monetary value, they are very valuable as evidence of the crimes committed by those in possession of such notes.

Sabric has noticed an increase in the attempted circulation of dye-stained notes in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, following the destruction of multiple ATMs.

“People who are in possession of these notes make themselves suspects of a criminal investigation that will seek to determine if they were involved in the stealing and unauthorised access of these ATM containers,” Sabric said.
The same dye should be used in the prison shower on Zuma and his comrades, and daily sjamboking of all these criminals.

Nvm Dr Prof Umughumrumdru has it covered ...

For the kids: This is a black money scam, it's not real.
Are you absolutely sure it's a scam?

Doesn't Dr Prof Umughumrumdru use the same SSD chemical for tollie enlargements and love spells?

Ah, so you know him! It seems you know too much, it can be one of three reasons.

#1 ... Has it worked?

What he does not tell you, is that once you dip your tollie in the SSD chemical, your tollie also becomes invisible (just like the dye on the bank notes becomes invisible to a naked eye).

Apologies to everyone for the thread derailment.

It's a bit of a problem if banknotes with tiny traces of discolouration are in general circulation. I got funny looks once with a R50 note with pink edges. It came out of an ATM...

Another reason why CBDC & a digital wallet is superior. Just question of how/what device they will use for low tech/non tech people as phones only are meh. Perhaps also have a card with QR and rolling cvv?
