Anyone have any idea WHERE and HOW Home Affairs stores everyone's Bio metric DATA
( Fingerprints / Retinal scans )

It is hosted on Home Affairs HANIS system in Pretoria. As far as I know it is only fingerprints for now. But, it has not been rolled out as they have initially planned. I know at one stage the were not able to offer all banks access to the system since queries were ineffective, took a long time and too many searches may have collapsed the system. This was about 7 years ago. Not sure if they managed to make any progress today though.

Main DB most probably is a homegrown M$ access database...

"Enriching" and "Aggregation"

How then is it possible to go into a bank and register for the new Home Affairs smart card
What about some banks running fingerprint scanners in their branches ?
Surely this indicates that the relationship between the banks and home affairs is functional ?

SO
I was reading about MagicDudes battle with home-affairs to get an ID book

PERHAPS
MagicDude can tell us if he had to give a full set of fingerprints ?
PERHAPS
Someone can tell us -- in detail -- where and how these are stored ( in what format )
Are they "leak-proof"

PERHAPS
MagicDude can tell us what information is contained in the machine code of the Drivers license ? ( a Shaiky shake company )
PERHAPS
MagicDude can tell us about the barcode attached to any ID documentation ?
What are the fields ? -- perhaps he can deconstruct it in the same way he did the ID number
PERHAPS
MagicDude can tell us what information is contained in the new smart card ID ?
and
How a mere mortal ( citizen ) can access it ?

Clearly what this episode shows is that RICA / FICA / every other infringement of a legal law abiding citizens rights to privacy is a MOCKERY.
That many government departments treat this information in a most cursory way
That many ( most ) private commercial companies treat the information in just as bad / negligent way as the rest of the government.
That many ( most) commercial companies only see "dollars" as far as the use of this information is concerned -- caring little or nothing for the person that the information attaches to.

IN the use of this identifier and the completely monopolistic role it plays in South African society -- South Africa emulates many aspects of the worst of the socialist USSR !

I am prepared to bet that this whole thing blows over without ANYONE being held accountable --or -- prosecuted
and
Most South African citizens having NO idea what happened or what it means just carry on without even a little bleat
UNTIL
They suddenly find themselves a victim
THAT
The ANC communist government ( and commercial interests ) decide that the ID and fingerprints are NOW no longer enough
AND
Institute the DNA database

WATCH and SEE

Wouldn`t be surprised at all if someone at home affairs is selling your info.
I received SMS spam for holiday bookings just after I applied for my passport, never received similar spam before.
Where else would they get ID numbers of children? Where do children complete forms?

Correct. No matter where you go, be it banks, telecommunications providers, government institutions, your data is being sold off. It is a multi-billion Rand industry. If the companies themselves do not sell data, their staff do. This is an unfortunate reality we need to accept and live with.
