I have a strange situation at home and I hope someone can explain or assist - when measuring 5L of water in the kitchen my water meter outside clicks over 45L . There are NO leaks as the meter does not click over when no taps/toilet/washing is being used. JHBWater has been out and changed the meter with the same result - over reading the usage by 8-9X . Plumber and leak detection both confirm no leaks

Is this the norm? and no my house isn't haunted

Will test mine after work and provide feedback. But I can already tell you, it is not acceptable if it does over read.

No - analog meter - billed in arrears
OK. I am pre-paid with a digital meter connected to an analog meter. I can however only see the digital part telling me how many litres I have left. But will test nonetheless.

Lol good luck with JW - Have a case with the Joburg Ombud for 6 months now despite a copy of a JW letter stating meter is faulty and should be replaced. They won't act at all. Ombud investigator is always on leave and always promising feedback but nothing else.

Had a similar situation when I changed from the old meter buried in the ground. Eventually went to the mayor's office after 5months and got some action.

Tested mine. 16373 litres was the start reading. Keep in mind I am on pre paid so the reading must come down. Filled a 5 litre water bottle to the brim and the reading afterwards was 16367 which is 1 litre out, but I think that is because of two reasons. Reading doesn't account for decimals and I used slightly over 5 litres as I filled the bottle to the brim.

Thanks for the feedback , I will post pictures tomorrow of the start and end readings when filling 5L (over reads by by 8-10x) . My monthly consumption is about 15KL for a family of 4 (lucky i have a borehole for the garden) . The issue is the over reading of the meter which I never noticed till now . Can anyone test on a raised analog water meter ( measuring exact amounts of water )

It's suspicious that you say 10x. If you said something random like 27x I could believe it. Also your usage is normal so it's clearly not over reading.
