Besides being rewarded with R500,000 by the South African South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) for winning a gold medal at the Olympic Games

Barely enough to replace a gear on that watch.

Mmmmmm, I'm a bit divided here. In a country as poor as ours, is this sort of extravagance not in bad taste? Not to mention a potential health risk? IE he could get shot for it?

Not sure I can find the justification for a R10m watch. Anything over R100k is unnecessary unless one is a collector.

Anyway...

Yet Bolt is worth $60 million. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the reasons why he's worth so much more is obvious, but not part of my point.

It's all about perspective.

"The watch was made famous by Rafael Nadal, and was spotted on several athletes at the Rio Games – including current SA golden boy, van Niekerk."

Likely sponsored and not sure if he gets to keep it. Prob just got paid to wear it.

I seriously doubt he bought that. he's only starting to make money this year, and exponentially so after breaking the WR.

Well he won the world championships last year, so I assume you meant last year.

If I had to choose between that watch and the Audi RS 3 Sportback he got, I'd prefer the Audi. Of course, selling the watch could buy a few other Audis as well.

I wish Wayne all the best, he has succeeded. Good to see that sponsors are eying him at a given opportunity to market their product, not only had he the chance to be an ambassador representing Richard Mille, but also Audi Sport.

Then again, near every WP rugby player is sponsored by Audi, Volkswagen, Opel…

:crylaugh:

But yes, he deserves every little bit he gets.
