I'm back to:

* Download time: 63.234 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 64.5 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 7.9 (kiloBytes/second)

Phoned helpdesk. Shiela says they were informed 20 minutes ago by technicians that some, not all, users, will experience this "bandwidth" problem for 3-4 days. She said they saw this problem coming over the past 2 days. I asked why it had not been reported on the network status pages. She says it will be reported imminently. Hopefully one will be able to make more sense of the problem once it is posted.

If it is posted...

At least I wasn't told that I am the only one. But please WBS.... COMMUNICATE!

Just before speaking to Shiela I sent this to the WBS helpdesk:

Been holding on the phone for ages. Clearly, you have big problems. Why
nothing on the network status pages? Why no incident report?

I am getting 64kbps max on local tests, and half that speed on
international tests.

I normally have >1024kbps, and full signal. Pings to www.iburst.co.za
are perfect.

Am I being throttled? I still have 2.84GB left of my cap!

Please respond urgently.

This is the reply I got:

Dear Antony

You have not been throttled, we have few problems on the network, we
have been battling to solve these since yesterday. We apologise for
the inconvenience, but we assure you that it will be resolved as soon as possible

Kind Regards

Not terribly consistent is it? And still nothing on the Network status and incident pages.

if the speeds now are comparable to being throttled then I say the data you download shouldn't count toward the cap

Ok, but can you now see a market for less expensive packages, catering for people that consistently get slow speeds?

Not wanting slow speeds at all, it's about having less expensive packages available that cater for the slow speeds that one gets...
