It seems that it is available in SA now. This is the second generation of the WD line of media players w/ network support. The price isn't bad (R1265 ex VAT), but man oh man, it is not the type of device that I'd like to show off in my AV rack. Many of these media player manufacturers get it so wrong time and time again, with exception to 2 or 3 of them, when it comes aesthetics. These devices shouldn't look like gadgets that sit next to your computer, but should look like components that you can include in your AV rack.

Would be interesting to hear some feedback on this one as compared to their previous model.

I agree. I got the mail from Frontosa advertising this device and although it looks like a nice buy, it also looks more like a modem than a media player...not good aesthetics at all...

I am really tempted by the Live. Where did you see the player being sold locally?

On the looks part, I prefer the shiny black of the previous player, but I'm not too fussed with the looks of the Live. It's small enough that it won't bother me too much...

I'm also considering the WD Live - I have the WD TV and it's great, does what I need it to do.

The network support feature is excellent, so I may go ahead and replace mine. I'm not too worried about the look, as mine will sit next to my HT setup, and is inconspicuous - as long as it works, I'm happy! :D

I don't know who is selling retail at the moment, but Frontosa has them available to resellers.
