Actually wasn't really much of an issue past 2008, it took almost 7 years till the next session of shedding. 2008 was like a blip, 2018 was when this current lot started and we've had no years off.
Started in 2008, actually I think might have been 2007, I think the term "Loadshedding" was coined in 2008. I could be completely wrong.

Thats when Cyril became president, 2018
By end Jan we would have had more LS in 2023 than 2008, 2015 and 2017 combined

The term load shedding wasn't coined in 2008, as Pakistan was using it in 2002 and india in 2005, so no it's not like we coined the term, it's been around. Also yes it started in 2008, but it ended in 2008 until 2015 that's 7 years of no load shedding, then it stopped in 2015 until 2018. So we've not had it continously since 2008, in fact in 2011 Eskom actually managed to meet demands of 37GW easily.

Komati is decommisioned to be converted to renewables, Rooiwal isn't an eskom station it's Tshwanes, Camden, Grootvlei and Hendrina were mothballed until 2008 through to 2010, they were brought back to sort out power shortfall till Medupi and Kusile came online, but they have been causing plenty of issues thanks to their ages, the others have been having issues due to crap coal.
