We all mock the Datsun, but what about this?

These shots were taken of an Etios that did a nose over tail flip in the Cullinan Rally yesterday.

Nose over tail is not uncommon in a rally car, and the cars always end up in a mess, but never have I seen one lose its roof before.

As the tail gate opened up, it ripped the roof off with it.

These guys survived unhurt because of a roll cage and 6 point seat belts.

God help anyone if they happen to flip in this way without a roll cage and 6 point belts.

Funny you should bring this up, this morning was sitting at traffic light next to one, and had allot of negative comments in my head. Wasn't one of Toyota's finest moments, me think... Build quality looks terrible.
I figured, it must be cheap atleast.

Say it had been an Auris in the same crash,
Wouldn't the same exact thing happen?

No, it would not.

I have been involved in rallying in SA since the early 80's and I have never seen a car lose its roof in a flip like this.

I have also had an almost identical roll in a Golf GTi Mk 1, and we ended up all together - nothing fell off at all, having seen the video of this one, we were possibly going faster as well.

It works alright! Eina!!! Six point harness or not, that's gotta leave a mark.

Oh it hurts alright, they are going to know all about it for quite a while, luckily they were also wearing HANS neck braces as well, so that also gave them some protection.

Ja that simply does not happen.

Imagine you're a normal family involved in an accident in that car where it rolls or something and the roof comes off :wtf:

Why would you rally with an Etios in the first place? Isn't it embarrassing for everyone involved?

Funnily enough, it's about the one thing that we all agreed that the car was good for.

Very light body and peppy little engine, plus cheap to set up in the first place.

Etios = Indian made... and like most Indian cars... very cheap, very soft, and certainly the very worst place to be in an accident.

So the ANC is trying their hand in rallying? The roof falling off is Obviously appartheids fault.
