Been to the Pretoria branch many many times and have purchased a car from them. I could climb into any car in the lot, look around them, test and inspect the car service book (if it was there) and could then then drive the cars within the business park, was was a pretty fun experience.

Everything seemed fine and easy enough till I had to renew the licence disk.... Then found out they had forgotten to do some of the paper work (License and Registration, that I payed them to do) Had to wait in line at dekra (wasting my own time) to have the road worthy done again so the could fix their mess up. There is more to this story that I have questions about how they do things but thats enough for now.

When they buy a vehicle from you what kind of due diligence do they do to ascertain the running/mechanical condition?

They inspect it for a good 20 minutes, take it for a 10 minute drive and spend 15 minutes on the phone to figure out a final price.

Not insanely thorough but better than what I’ve seen elsewhere

I tried my first car (Volvo C30 T5) and they offered R160k - but I got R200k through an Audi dealer the following week.

A few years later I needed to get rid of the Audi I'd bought and I thought the first figure was maybe because it was a Volvo. So I tried again ... and they offered R200k (I got R240k trade a few days later through a Volvo dealer)

I decided again to try the 3rd time with them on another Volvo ... they offered R150k-R160k and the dealer only slightly higher at R160k-R170k ..... and CarZAR offered an instant R164k

They seemed horrendous a few years ago - but maybe now that there is competition, their figures are more in line?

That money for a Volvo? I thought they had bad resale or is yours a limited edition of sorts?

It's a fallacy that just goes on through the generations.

It was true at one stage with certain models, but the newer ones are no worse (or marginal) than BMW or Mercedes, like for like. In fact that one that I got R200k for, was slightly higher than my stepbrothers Merecedes of the same price / mileage year.

I went Volvo > Volvo > Audi > Audi > Volvo ... and my next car? Another Volvo - they're really awesome cars and I was treated far better at Volvo, as opposed to Audi.

And the orange one was marked down because the colour

It appears no one likes my color choices ... but in the end, they gave R200k with 36,000km on the clock a full 25% over WBC.
The Audi was 20% less than I got through the dealer ... was only 60,000km on the clock

And the Audi ...

In the 18 months I had her, this occurred three times. Audi SA couldn't really assist either ... hence, I'm done with them for a while :)

Indeed Volvo gets a bad rap for its older models, which is sometimes justified. The notion that resale is bad just goes on through each generation but their latest vehicles are on par woth industry standards. I find their service much better than the mainstream brands too. Which Volvo did you get?

The thing with this A5 is that they acknowledged the fault with the pistons ... but the best they could do was, 'oh when it breaks - you don't have to worry because we'll pay'. It's Audi SA policy to only fix when broken'. I wanted them to repair the issue before it broke - but they wouldn't do that. I needed to first break down on the highway, then phone them and then they'd repair in a few days. Whereas a Volvo would say to me, 'oh - this looks like it'll break in future, so we'll repair before it got to that point'.

The new Volvo didn't work out :( A friend owns a large auction house and he prompted me when it arrived, (Monday) as he knows I'm a fan. I had two days to get all the figures etc as the auction was this Wednesday - but ultimately I was outbid on the Volvo :( The car was in DBN, so I couldn'r drive it and Volvo were quite slack in getting my vehicle information via the VIN (you win some with the sales guys, you lose some ...)

It was a 2016 Volvo S60 Polestar with 46,000km on the clock. It's 2.0l All Wheel Drive with 270kw and claimed 0-100km/h in under 5 seconds. There were only 45 examples bought in 2016 (and 28 the year prior) - so not easy to get

Interested to hear from people who have bought from them (or went and didn't). I like the idea but am worried that these cars are lemons in generally

Anybody gone to the showrooms to see what's what?

Used them before to sell 2 cars, got reasonable prices, paid deposit and let me use the car for 1 week before they took it and paid in full.

From my experience with them, they checked the VIN and licence, checked for respray and any dents thats just about it, they take it for a test drive (for me was done in the office park) so they never really drove the car properly. Paid a reasonable amount for it.
