If I compare my own CD rip to my Google play copy (from their library), they sound exactly the same. Why would they eq across the board?
I even compared both copies to Deezer where my subscription is still running. Still the same...
I spent quite a bit of time testing tracks with my Play Music trial, precisely because I struggled to believe Google could be so stupid as to EQ their entire library. I found loads of stuff that was unlistenable on Play Music. This was on a desktop with good headphones and a DAC.
What album did you use to compare? If it's bass heavy in nature then it wouldn't lose much from the EQ.
I'm also really loving Play music. The only downside for me is that the interface can be a bit laggy every once in a while. I love the library, I am really amazed by some of the artists I have found on there, and by that I am talking about non mainstream and more indie stuff. And I love the fact that you can find LOADS of local artists. Using it on my Z5.
Google could probably learn a thing or two here from Spotify, they have some good playlists but IMO it could really be a bit better. What does work really well is if you select "radio" from a song and it'll play similar genres, but the downside is that you have to be connected for this unless you play and the playlist first and download it after. But its much more convenient to search for a playlist and download it for offline use.
How could the Spotify playlists be better? New ones are uploaded every day, and popular older ones are updated frequently. You can also subscribe to any other user's playlists, or share a playlist with friends and keep each other up to date on a particular music taste or genre. It's awesome.
I've found that Spotify has a lot more music than our local streaming services, and Spotify has a huge selection of South African music too.
An issue I frequently had with Play Music, other than not being able to create playlists in Firefox, was that loads of less popular music couldn't play. I like classical music, and it felt like more than half of the stuff I tried to play gave an error.
