We need to rethink e-tolls:Transport MEC

Well blow me down...

I think the normal people in this country have been telling you that for a few years now..

Amazing!!! First they implement it, then sign it into law, then force it down our throats, then said it was a provincial issue and now they want to rethink it!!!

Sanity will prevail.

It did .. just not in the hands of the ANC government.

We have got to have a reputable road network in our province — this is the most important economy, at least in Southern Africa and in this country, so we have got to build a road network,” he told Robbie.

Oh so that explains why such a lot of careful thought & planning had gone into the e-toll rollout, to maximise bang for the buck while optimising traffic flow for the benefit of all road users? Not!

Personally I think the ANC thought it was going to get away with another arms deal & people are just going to roll over and accept it.

****ing stealing commie bastards.

I am really happy that it appears etolls are dying a slow and painful death.

On the other hand it annoys me that so much of the taxpayers money has been wasted on erecting those monstrosity etoll gantries.

If logic had prevailed a proper consultation would have happened before they spent billions on putting up infrastructure, which now looks like it will now become unused. This money could have been better spent on feeding and housing the poor. But I suppose the cadres that count all lined their pockets nicely in this process

VIVA ANC VIVA.

They thought we were going to go soft on them about this

Just switch those gantries into average speed enforcement mode and put the traffic enforcement officers that would normally waste their time on that to do other forms of enforcement.. Like the taxis and morons who make a single road turn into a three lane one ?

Loads of fine money to be made just there alone hell enforcing proper driving will net them more than speed enforcement which really needs to be automated (beside the catch points which operators can direct people to)

It's all about the votes baby. Nothing whatsoever to do with anything but the votes that the ANC believe they will lose at the coming local elections in GP given how badly they did in the national polls. They stand to lose a few municipalities if that is repeated or continues.

We are actually the idiots because one way or another we are going to pay for this massive corrupt system . Someone has to cover all the kick backs

Well that's SARS for you, the only Gov entity that still functions properly >.< (Well, there's also VAT, levies etc etc - and afaik it's not easy to circumvent a lot of those unless you run your own business and run up high expenses to offset any taxable earnings.)

On another note, Zuma is visiting my block of Flats today, FSM knows why hahaha. The idea of egging his car seems very amusing but I don't want to end up with a mouthful of tar and teeth when one of his +size bodyguards slams me to the floor hahaha. Might stay around for his visit but think I'd rather go have a beer at my Pub lol ^_^ I must say, I've got no love for that man but tbh I might vote for him if he Legalized ;P

This latest realisation from government just proves that they never listen to what the public has say to about issues in SA. I mean you had be living under a rock not to have heard how the public feels about e-tolls by now.

And yet ANC slogan remains "Government by the people, for the people". Pathetic!
