I actually don't think the logic holds in reality. The ANC took a pounding in KZN in the LGE's really... I think the ANC (as can be expected) haven't realised that Zuma is a poisoned chalice for them politically.

They are stuck with him, they could have taken the opportunity to get rid of him way back when Mbeki fired him. For now it's a matter of managing him and the provincial ANC.
