We tested a DIY mini UPS for a Wi-Fi router

Many thanks. I noticed that having the charger plugged in all the time reduced my laptop battery. I rather use perhaps a smart plug for that
Also running off battery will reduce the battery life, so it is debatable whether charging, unplugging until the battery drops to say 40%, then recharging is going to be any better than staying plugged in and just leaving the battery circuitry to top the battery up occasionally.

Ok cool. Message received. Will never buy HP again.;)
I very much doubt their chargers attempt to overcharge the battery. Maybe a particular model that had a faulty charging circuit or just yours that was faulty. This sort of thing is typically handled by off the shelf components that even someone who has no idea what they're doing could put into a circuit and safely charge a lithium battery.

Nope. Couple of them. Different models. All used on desks as desktop replacements by myself and other colleagues. If charging circuits were improved in newer generations then great. As for me, I wouldn't want to test this out. I'll rather not leave my devices plugged in.
