We tested the Post Office's parcel delivery and 3 months later - nothing

Had to fetch a parcel at PO. Got there and they only accepted cash - it was load shedding.
Usually they only accept cash cos the card machine is offline, even when it's not load shedding.

Our one was closed during load shedding. A couple of months ago they merged the last 2 post offices in town onto one premises. For about 2 months nothing was setup, you could only collect parcels, not send, and everything was cash only.

When I picked up this parcel today, the one I bought late March and now have no need for, our post office is setup and does accept parcels and card payments - but no load shedding solution in place.

I had to move from 3 post offices. One destroyed in riots, 2 shutdown. Now I'm at one the furthest possible side of town, but I'm treated well. Actual good customer service. Hell, they go look for my parcels, AND call me when they find them.

Amazing what people will do in the service industry when it's obvious their jobs aren't that secure.

P.S: I use this app, and it usually tells me where my stuff is before the post office even knows

The post office employees I have worked with are absolutely amazing people - their commitment to helping you and getting things done are seconds to none - here I have to point out I am referring to an inclusive group of people (black, white, coloured, indian, etc.)

It is these employees I feel the saddest about - in private sector companies or even other failing SOEs they would still do a sterling job despite how wrong it treats them.

Yes as with all situations the story is more nuanced. All I can say is a little pressure to perform seems to have lit at least a small fire in my neck of the woods.

I ordered a few things off aliexpress between June and October and after their usual splitting of orders it was 11 packages.

I received all of them including an SMS to go and collect each time. Best of all no queues at the packages side. As much as they can be a dinosaur of a organisation I've always been able to get my orders so have to give them kudos. I like the new SMS you get as I never got the old paper notification.
