We want you – Win a R25,000 gaming PC

MyBroadband is hiring and wants you to apply.

We are looking for journalists and sub-editors who like technology, gaming, and online news – or techies and gamers who like writing and think they would excel at an online news publication.

To ensure we get the best applicants, we are offering a sweet incentive to the person we hire in a permanent position – a gaming PC worth R25,000.

So this is not a job one can do on the side to supplement your income? There is no mention of expected salary, except for the free Woolies meals, Nespresso and free internet. Surely this advertisement isn't serious??

Requirements:

  • - English first language, excellent English writing ability
  • - A degree – does not have to be in journalism

So what, if you have a degree in street cleaning you stand a better chance of getting the job than a 22 year old that has been working in I.T. a few years?
i have never seen a job requirement down to 2 things only. No mention of age, BEE etc
LOL

Also no mention of location (given that I assume this is for Gauteng peeps only, or those who are daft enough to want to relocate to the big smoke)

i only see at the bottom now the 5 questions.
Hahaha that is why they are hiring new people. The spell checker works well on articles, but the punctuation and grammar has always left me in stitches reading articles.
And that includes IOL and News24.
Does no one physically proof read articles anymore?

Also buggerall mention of salary. Person will work for woolworth meals, nespresso and internet. Hope they dont block the porn sites.

The five questions are hilarious. 99% of jounos today would fail just that

To be honest I`m stuck at number 1, thanks to my grade 8 English teacher.

Hellhound`s tea cup = Hellhound is tea cup
Hellhounds` tea cup = The tea cup belonging to Hellhound

But this was marked wrong and was told something something. Now I just write "Hellhound`s tea cup" and I move on

LOL it is the vaguest job application I have ever seen.
1 April? Nope, just checking.

None of the listed answers contain full stops...therewould would fail my attention to detail test.

Also @rpm is this a "work from home" but for MyBB full time kind of position or a work in your offices kind of job?

The job ad is actually pretty sparse on details....as in it's a pretty bad job ad.

Wait what? Or did use those examples to show how incorrectly you were taught in Grade 8?

Since the ad is crap, I hereby offer my services to write articles for MyBB from home. You can keep the gaming PC.

I must admit that I have atrocious spelling and sentence structuring when typing on online discussion boards and alike, worse when using mobile. Instant Messengers are the worst, but that also depends on who I am replying to.

Many times, I will quickly edit my post to correct an issue here and there, and at times mess it up even more.

Do I, generally, care about it, no.

I do read many articles, not only on here but when you publish something then it better needs to be in order. Really good publishers have some really bad mistakes in their articles, which is the editorial team’s responsibility in any case.

I am no writer, more an investigator. I believe the greatest challenge here isn’t whether this gaming PC may run Crysis, but whether whoever is going to be appointed will be able to manage a crisis.

That job application tho.
What is the person actually applying for?
