As an ex SAAF pilot, reading the article put so much emotions of anger in me I had to wait a few days to cool off.
It is beyond comprehension that a function that requires exceptional skill, be reduced to a politician’s agenda. From now on I am going to stay far away from military airfields and shows.

I think what he meant, was that if the army does not use the best they have, be it black, white, brown, etc., we will not have an effective defense against potential enemies. Would you rather have the most competent people to protect you, or somebody that could cause more destruction for us than the potential enemy?

It doesn't have anything to do with race, but only the fact that in the place like the army or air force, you would like to have the most competent people to operate those multi-million rand machinery. Right? Right.

What I want is for the best pilot candidates to be put in the fighters, be they black, white, indian, coloured, khio-san, legal zimbabwean/nigerian immigrants. I want them to be judged by their capability, not by the colour of their skin.
