Webafrica and MWEB launch new fixed LTE products – Price and speeds

I think Rain shot themselves in the foot by creating hype around their network and "rain to the home" as a fibre alternative. I think we were expecting to see products with similar data allownaces and pricing we see on fibre. This is clearly not the case now that pricing is available.

Thanks for the comparison .cat.
Couple of things:
Telkom LTE Uncapped - we're of the opinion these don't exist anymore. Can anyone locate a free tower for this offering?
Telkom LTE and Telkom LTE-A - please hook us up with a link(s), we're battling to find these. We peg Telkom's closet LTE-A package (100GB) at R11 per gig.

They have 200GB LTE-A for R1699/month. https://secure.telkom.co.za/today/shop/home/plan/smartbroadband-wireless-lte-a-200-gb-variation/

http://www.telkom.co.za/today/unlimited-broadband/ quite a few rocket towers. Even the new one in Port Shepstone so good competition for Rain.

To sum it all up I think in general there has been so much hype with rain and so we were expecting something ground breaking. Not just same old, same old. If it was R5/GB then we would be cheering in the streets and getting everyone we know to sign up. Especially since we have had very little idea how the network will perform in the real world.

Halve your prices, lets us use our own devices and offer a 20gig option. Now we talking.....

I was about to buy it since it comes out cheaper than Cell C's 200GB and since I can't have fibre (credits in order of uselessness to Fibrehoods, Iconnect, Openserve and Cool Ideas).

But, but Illovo is apparently a dark unknown area of Sandton where according to Webafrica, there is not LTE... I have LTE on Cell C and my SO has on Telkom, but Iburst no...

These forums most certainly assist us providing a service that are relevant to the public need. It is more than appreciated, the good sentiment allows us to know what we are doing right and the critic allows us to ensure we know how to get things better a create loyal clients

Hi Rwenzori, 20Mbps is the starting point. It's upwards from there depending on your location to the tower.
120GB of data is plenty for some and to be fair if you run out you can always top up at R17/gig (which is pretty darn good for a wireless product if you ask me).

I suppose that is fair enough. Sorry. I am just grateful fibre arrived.

Please DM us - with your details - will ensure this is assisted accordingly

moheyns is the webafrica client with the issue that made a thread about it, moheyns is not spelled like supersunbird, still contest the "inept support." assertion? :crylaugh: Nor am I webafrica client, chose Afrihost for my fibre account after I read all the threads about your bad support

Hi RVQ, we're adding free night time data to our product roadmap. RE: the Huawei B618 router is a premium grade router which retails for $450 and upwards, we're selling it for a ridiculous low price of R2249 (including SIM and delivery). We've tested a multitude of routers and the B618 peformed head and shoulders above the rest. Hence, this is the reason why we're only supporting this router now (more to follow down the line).

Is this 100% for sure?

Is it available yet?

That's great, I'll revisit once these are available. At this point in time it make no sense for me to switch from the way more value for money Telkom offerings...

And Illovo's coverage ?

It's quite a ridiculous dark hole in the middle of Sandton according to your map.

Ockie, what can we do to make your day?

Nothing thank you. Was very interested to see pricing from this network, but after all the hype I have to say, really disappointing? The fact that Mweb has got exactly the same pricing as you....well....what can one say.

Rain completely overhyped and over sold the idea of their new network and what it was going to bring to the market. /shrug

What about preliminary testing by the well known forum member?
One year free package on the start...

Finally and it's a big...

MEH

For me to even "consider" it it has to match the R5/GB I'm currently getting from Cell C. How is it that every new provider thinks they can compete by offering less half of the best offer available? Then the mandatory installation and device cost with the high barrier to entry is going to absolutely kill something like this.

So they now have 210 routers left. That means they have sold 90 packages in just under a day. Selling like hotcakes? Not really is it?

So Webafrica says "LTE-A is more reliable and delivers true 4G speeds, that are 2 - 3x faster than regular LTE." and then on the same page "Through testing we were able to obtain speeds between 10 - 50 Mbps." My maths skills aren't great but surely this doesnt add up? On ol regular LTE I get 50Mbps - surely I should be getting 100-150Mbps if LTE-A is 2-3 x faster?

Is it possible that the resellers have been given very little room to maneuver by Rain? i.e. the fact that Mweb and Webafrica's pricing is exactly the same, it's almost as if they have not been able to negotiate individual rates but just are selling on at the recommended retail price.

What we really need here is to see if Afrihost is going to offer Rain packages? Perhaps they have the ability to really shake up the market?

I predict that most ISPs will offer this product and that their pricing will be very very similar, if not the same.
