Hi all.

Just wanted to get anyone's input if possible.

According to Webafrica's website, the area where I live in (Parow North, Cape Town), Fibre (Openserve) is coming to me soon.

I cannot see that the area I live in is in the planning stages on the Openserve coverage map.

I have now pre-ordered the fibre from them with a 4-8 week estimated date given for the fibre to go live.

Anyone here have any experience with getting Fibre even though it was not on the Openserve coverage map?

I guess I will have to wait and see. Fingers and toes crossed.

I just recently moved to the area and the ADSL is horrendous.

Perhaps you can check on the Webafrica website if it gives you the same message to say it will be here soon.

I am hoping it is not a glitch somewhere.

I did check and it gave me the same response - that it will be available soon and can be pre ordered. I checked on the afrihost site (my current adsl ISP) and they say it isnot available and no mention of it being available.
My adsl speeds are consistently fine though, rarely do I have any issues, that being said you are not the first person I have heard say that adsl in the area is terrible.

I moved from an area where I had 20Mbps ADSL to now where I only have 8Mbps ADSL. Also at around 5/6pm the congestion on the exchange brings the speed down to about 3/4Mbps (per speedtest results).

So you can understand when I say that when I say it is terrible, if I compare to where I used to live.:)

Just went back on the sight to check now as well, and now it is Shucks, you cant get it.

Was afraid of that.

Ah well, so much for that wishful thinking. Maybe we will have fibre by 2020

Weirdly if I check via my phone it says it's happening. If I check OpenStreetMap it says coverage is planned. But if I check web africa via pc it says haibo. Extremely weird. Let me know if you come right though.

They've been digging up the roads endlessly so I'm pretty sure it's happening.

Just a matter of when it will go live.

I hope so. Not sure where they are digging though.
Haven't seen anyone digging around me unless I have just been oblivious to it.

Another thing i Noticed is that on the site i signed up for the 20mb fibre line with the 600gig monthly package, however on the clientzone it comes up as a 400gig monthly+1000gig (12pm - 6am). still need to query that with them i suppose unless I missed something there.

My one shows correctly though.

Did they confirm with you that Fibre will be coming soon?

Soon is a relative term, they couldnt confirm anything as per dates really. As for the Data, im awaiting feedback from them regarding my query but it is definitely happening - i wouldnt be in too much of a rush though dude - i get the feeling it may take a while yet before its all up and running.

I guess all we can do is just wait it out.

Hopefully we will have fibre before the end of the year. :crylaugh:

Let me know if you get any further feedback from them and vice versa.
