Solar tax breaks in South Africa — what homeowners and businesses should know

The demand for solar power equipment in South Africa will likely rise with the country's new solar incentives, but homeowners and businesses must know what to do to qualify for the tax breaks.

Partners at Webber Wentzel, Chetan Vanmali and Joon Chong highlighted the factors businesses and individuals must consider to receive the incentives before proceeding with their solar installations.

I am disappointed by the lack of hats in the article.

The demand is rising but not because of that pitiful tax break, just good old fashioned ANC incompetence. Prices have increased by way more than what you'd get back in tax...

So homeowners can only claim on solar panels at 25%, while businesses can claim 125% of thrle costs, which includes inverters, batteries, solar panels etc?

No one noticed hat homeowners? Probably a bit too buzzed to come up with a good joke.

This is actually BS. We should be getting rebates on every single battery we have purchased, every single battery operated light or fan or whatever, every single gas appliance, every single solar item we buy... The ONLY reason people spend money on these things is because Eskom is not supplying power to use the electrical items that we already have. This 'we will rebate you, but only if' is absolute BS!

Batteries on its own don't reduce the load, it just shifts it.

The rebate should be on the entire system if coupled with panels. It shouldn't look at batteries or panels in isolation...

You should seriously change your profile picture.

I disagree. It should be for every cent we had to spend on anything at all related to living our lives without power.
