Hi
I may be a numbnuts at this but is there any way of effectively managing a website (local or international) if you have an ADSL connection.
I have pretty much given up on my 2 year international webspace as there is no way I can seem upload files to it or even manage it properly with an ftp client or through a web logon interface.
Same goes for local webspace.
Any ideas, this sucks bigtime.

Hi,

Im not sure from your post what you mean.
Are you having difficulty managing your website using ADSL? Or perhaps you are enquiring whether you can manage a website with ADSL? [:)]

Hi
I posted before a few weeks ago.
My problem is that I cant even upload a 50K jpg to my site, let alone a 7meg doccy. Its rediculous.
I emailed that person that you said I should but got no response.
Basicaly I have both local and international webspace.
I have a 2 years ADSL agreement with Telkom.
I used to have 128k isdn.
I cant upload anything to any of my webspace using adsl be it local or international. It starts of fast then slides into a 1 bit/sec abyss.
So basicaly what I am asking is how do people that have adsl accounts upload stuff to there webspace effectively.
I cant get it right with adsl.
I start to upload a jpg then walk away and come back in like 20 minutes and it might be done lol, if it actualy gets there uncorrupted.

[8D] This is what I thought you meant, but I had to be sure.
I too have the same problem. I have a website for my business hosted by a local (.org) server. Often I cannot upload to the server. This phenomenon is at its worst during the day. I have during the evenings been able to upload at reasonable speeds, but not all the time either. So I'm pretty baffled myself.
I can only suspect that Telkom is the underlying culprit in our problem. I suspect that you can upload faster with ISDN during the day.
So I want to know from Telkom why. How can a ADSL user upload to the web server if Telkom is strangling the connection? What did we buy ADSL for? The service is useless for uploading to a ftp server. I want to know what Telkom plans on doing about it too.
In the mean time I have sent a complaint by email to ICASA. For whatever its worth. I was wondering if the My Wireless people have the same problems.

Here is little bump for your post. I hope someone can help us out.

This could be an excellent demo for the ADSL ICASA hearings.

One could request the hearings to be moved to a place where a "production" ADSL connection is in operation, and then demo the problem to the ICASA panel.

I have had very little success BTTB.
In the evenings it is better, but its still between 3K/sec and 1bit/sec. That to me just aint worth it.
I could upload and download at 15K/sec easy on my 128 ISDN.

I phoned saix direct and got fobbed off to the isp.
Fine, went and lodged numerous complaints on a daily basis with the isp. They have basicaly said there is nothing they can do, its Telkom.
Eventualy after numerous escalated complaints the isp asked me for my webspace username and password (at Telkoms request for tests), as well as my adsl conection stuff, which I gladly provided to them.
2 Days later the isp came back to me and said that its just tough, thats the way it is, and nothing is going to be done about it.

Now perhaps these morons dont understand that I pay good money for 3 gigs of traffic. They can prostitute that however they like but when I signed up there was no mention of bandwidth throttling on webspace, only peer to peer. I have been cheated / misled.
Also I have paid my international webspace subscription in advance which is also no pretty useless.
Not even local is any good.

I should be able to use my 3 gigs any darn way I choose to. If I exceed the limit then fine, cap me.

I would honestly love to go to a meeting or hearing where I can state my case. I think this is just plain ludicrous.
If there is one in the Durban area let me know, I will be the first one in the door.

We sympathise with you Sneaky. Your experience must leave a bad taste in your mouth. Have you considered other options like MyWireless or going back to ISDN (perish the thought). It might seems like a rediculous thing, but could be a option.
Maybe your ISP can upload your files for you. You send them the files and they upload it for you to the server. They soon will get bored with doing extra chores and try and resolve your problem. To simply say its out of their hands and should accept it is reneging their duties as a ISP. With this sort of attitude they might go out of business. What ISP is this may I ask. Perhaps their name should be brought into the picture.

It really isnt the isp's fault in my eyes.
Perhaps I was a little vague in my rant.
They have tried to help, an escalated the complaints direct to Telkom on more than one occasion.
What they (the isp) have basicaly said is that this is a direct result of the bandwidth control that Telkom has introduced to restrict peer to peer prgrams like Kazaa and the likes from being effective. This unfourtunately for me adversely affects me being able to upload my stuff to a webby or a ftp addy.
Telkom have taken my login details for my account and my webspace and have confirmed the putrid upload speed.
Its Telkom that have told them (the isp) that this is the way it is and it isnt going to change, so suck it up and deal with it.
Nice chaps eh!
Not much the isp can do about that.

I managed to upload to my site last night at 2300 at a rate of between 8-16k/sec which is lightpseed considering my previous speeds.
This morning is back to almost zero.

Wireless would be the best way to go for sure for this type of thing. Pricey though.
Strange though that nobody else is complaining about this. Suppose they all went the wireless route.
Back to ISDN, never lol, Im done with lining Telkoms pockets on call charges.

Overall I am very happy with ADSL. Its great and havent had a hitch at all. Just this uploading to personal webspace thats getting under my skin.

I know you said you contacted Sonia. Did she reply to your query?

You can set out your complaint on paper and submit it to ICASA.

The more they get on their tables, the better.

Ask the ISP to open an FTP service on another (non standard) port, one that Telscum is unlikely to monitor or control traffic on. Connect to the ISP ftp server on the new port, upload away!

I had this problem, could not upload with my ftp account. Simple check your proxy and ur DNS. don't know why but it solved the problem, Use proxy dsl-cache.saix.net and make sure your DNS settings are 196.25.1.11(primary) and 196.43.1.11(secondary). I sorted that out it was perfect. Hope you come right.
