WeBuyCars has heard your complaints

The article is just a big nothing burger, lots of waffle but nothing has changed, skom business as usual.
"Used-car giant WeBuyCars (WBC) is assessing the viability of providing mechanical reports on its vehicles to potential buyers."

Kinda weird that the WeBuyCars Dekra report only noted one minor issue - yet the Dekra branch down in Cape Town said there was no way the vehicle was anywhere near roadworthy with all its oil leaks, water leaks, shot suspension and barely any breaks. (taken within 50km of the WeBuyCars report)

Is that what happened with a vehicle you bought from WBC?

Yip, I literally picked the car up from their delivery depot - drove home - drove to a repair shop the next morning to fit the shock bushing pointed out by WBC Dekra - drove to Dekra in Montague Gardens.

R42,456.00 to get ready for roadworthy based on what the second "report" pointed out.

Fortunately its not a situation where I was desperate - and just a weekend toy. I feel for people who buy from WBC out of desperation.

I took it up with WBC at the time, but - all I got were promised investigations.

Do they allow you to get a 3rd party roadworthy done before the deal is done?

Highly doubt it - they tell you to bring around a mechanic or someone knowledge able, but - way before my purchase, I was interested in a Defender 90 2.8i. Lowish mileage. I went and had a look in Montague Gardens, told the guy I was interested, but wanted to have someone have a look, they told me it wasn't necessary, and were quite pushy, but I insisted.

The next day I called them and said I could come through with the guy, sales guy said all good - when we got there, they "forgot" one of the sales guys had taken the vehicle to a potential buyer for a test drive. I was a bit frustrated, but - left it - a week later I tried again, again when we got there - the vehicle was suddenly unavailable as it had to be taken to have a minor issue looked at (apparently).

Not once did they apologies, even though I had fetched a 3rd party to take to them - left it at that.

Yeh, should of given up at the first red flag - but I really wanted a Defender 2.8i.... still do :(

Sadly, their pricing went from around 120k 10 years ago to over 400k for the same year/model now.

Just sold mine for 3x what I paid for it 13 years ago

I recently was looking for a cheap secondhand car to run around in town.
Now let me tell you this. Once you start looking at secondhand dealers that sell "cheaper" cars and go read their Google reviews, then suddenly WeBuyCars does not look that bad. It is an absolute minefield out their with mileage turned down, code 3 written off vehicles sold as mint, fake road worthy's etc.
