They keep threatening ANC votes.

Ok, so put your money where your mouth is come election day.

So reading the articles, it does look as if this is a protected strike, and that baffles me immensely.
Sec 213 of the Labour Relations Act defines a strike as "the partial or complete concerted refusal to work, or the retardation or obstruction of work, by persons who are or have been employed by the same employer or by different employers, for the purpose of remedying a grievance or resolving a dispute in respect of any matter of mutual interest between employer and employee".

It can only be a strike relating to a dispute between employer and employee(s). Definately not what this action of Wednesday is about, so it cannot be a strike and definately not be protected one. It will constitute unlawful absence from work.

Then we will have another strike and threats about that...

These fools continue to support the ANC. They're part of the problem in this country (never mind their constant striking for more money after signing agreements!). The minute they stop supporting the ANC, and allow their members to vote for someone else, part of the issue is resolved.

Do Union members get paid while on strike? If not, this strike may actually work because it takes money from unproductive workers and transfers it to business. If workers strike long enough, the savings could fund automation of some of the business.
They are not paid when on strike. Protected just means not fired for being awol but no work no pay.

The "impact" of this strike has been overblown significantly by the usual alarmist-types on social media and MSM, making is way more significant that it ought to be.

Meh.

Like ****ing for virginity.
COSATU are allies with the ANC, they should call a meeting and thrash this out with them. They also want to moan about the ANC's mismanagement of the economy. Again, call a meeting with your allies instead of inconveniencing the rest of us.
the accuracy !
